      My Humble Introduction

Hello everyone. For formality's sake I would like to introduce myself. My name is Rickey Hicks. I have come here for a few reasons, but the most pertinent to you is that I wish to interact with others who share the same passions as I do. I am here to both share my wisdom and experiences as well as hear the wisdom and experiences of others, so that through this mutual sharing both of us can become better at this art.I am currently in the Flagstaff, AZ area, so if you reply to this post and happen to be there as well please let me know. I am contemplating starting an official extracurricular club for it at Northern Arizona University.
One of my goals is to begin writing an extensive book on the subject of lucid dreaming. A sequel to that book would be a book explaining a few of the theories I have concerning dreams. Theories that without a doubt could have a serious impact on human life if successful.
But on a lighter note. Dreaming is amazing, and lucid dreaming even more so. I plan to enjoy myself through this process and hope to make great friends. So please respond and introduce yourself as well. I am looking forward to meeting you.

      Hello Rickey and welcome!

It is always great to have more dedicated dreamers here and I am sure that you have some interesting experiences, ideas, and theories. Do your present studies relate to dreaming at all?

Thank you! And yes they do. I have not yet gotten to the skill level of lucid dreaming that I need to have in order to put some of my crazy theories to the test, so I am going to try some more basic things first. I plan to first master dream control. Then I am going to start working on hyperreality. Basically I am going to see if I can make a lucid dreaming experience every bit as real as a waking experience, and maybe even further.

On accident I did this once. All of my reality checks said without a doubt that I was not dreaming, but I was absolutely positive that I was. The only reason I knew that I was dreaming was because the place that I was dreaming of wasn't real. I could read all of the words there though and they didn't change when I looked away. My body was also just as solid as is was in real life. It was really quite freaky.

The point for this experiment would be to perhaps be able to train muscle memory while you sleep. Doing something in a dream provokes nearly the same brain activity as doing it in real life. If you could lucid dream in this state of hyperactivity then maybe you could practice various physical activities and have them carry over to the waking world. Typing it out this theory seems kind of crazy too, but it is simpler than the others and still less crazy lol. What do you think about this? Since you've had a lot more experience lucid dreaming then I have, do you think this would work?

Hey Rickey, that research sounds very interesting. I beleive that some very preliminary studies may have already been done on that (though I do not know how rigorous they were) - I definitely have read of one author comparing muscle memory between a. people who physically practiced an activity, b. those who imagined that activity, and c. those who practiced in a dream state. Don't quote me on it, but I think the test was throwing a basket ball.

I see no reason why this couldn't be tested. The hard part will be getting a bunch of lucid dreamers in a controlled setting.

You're right...you would either have to use a few people who could consistently lucid dream every night or take your time with the study and wait for less efficient dreamers to have the dreams. Definitely something that has interested me. I was looking up some general stuff on lucid dreaming last night and I found a video of a guy talking about something very similar, which gave me a bit of hope lol.

      There's lot of hope - don't worry.

I share that ambition and going back to school for a BSc in psychology while I work. Aside from planning to go clinical in a few years, my intention is to get some opportunities to do research with/on lucid dreaming.
