One of the methods you can use to get out of a LD if you're stuck is to scare yourself, so your heart rate rises, which will shock you awake. You can also kill yourself.
Sleep paralysis is only in techniques that require you to be aware, such as WILD. DILD and MILD do not take you through it (I've never heard anybody go through SP during MILD).
Really, all techniques are hard in their own way. In DILD, you have to hope that you realize you're dreaming (I've been doing everything you're supposed to, still no LD); FILD, you have to be at a certain stage of sleep in order for it to work; and so on. Really, WILD is no difficult than any other technique. It just requires practice like all the others.
I wake up by an alarm clock, but that's for school. It is recommended to set an alarm, for as you said, it is hard to get out of a LD at times.
