      Smile Newbie Dreamer ;)

Hello! I'm new around here.May I tell you my story? Ok... I was just minding my own business until one friend of mine kept talking about Lucid Dreaming. He told me that he had many LDs so I kind of asked him for tips. I wasn't satisfied with just those tips, the subject was still blurry for me, so I've surfed around the web aaand I didn't really get "nice" results. I've found all sorts of bad experiences and that kind of discouraged me for a while, until I really tried it. I did what my friend told me to do but once the "symptoms" kicked in I started thinking about the bad stuff I had found and got scared, and how I knew that the dream wouldn't be that nice if I was scared, I instantly opened my eyes and failed the attempt. Then I found this site, which looks really promising and I found out that all the bad stuff is pretty uncommon and that I should be more confident, happy. This night I will be making another attempt, I have read some threads but I'm wondering if anyone will take time to give me some pro-tips? Thank you

Hello and welcome. First thing to note is that HH (which I believe is what you mean by symptoms) or hypagogic hallucinations is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Confidence is indeed key and that should come the more you practice. I'm assuming you're using WILD, in which case, you should try it either during an afternoon nap or 5-6 hours after you go to sleep on a night and you need to maintain your awareness when transitioning (simply counting works for me). Any questions, ask away and happy dreaming.

Just last night I experienced a pretty startling HH. I was walking and all of a sudden I got hit by a bus. It was just like a split second and it woke me up with a start. All you gotta do is just lay back down and relax. They are pretty common.

I had another attempt today but it was kinda early in the morning, way after any period of REM I suppose, it was 8AM. Yes I am doing WILD. Few minutes into the attempt and my hands and feet got numb, few more minutes and my whole body was numb. I kept setting myself minutes back because I had to swallow, I also read about it so I tried not to pay much attention to it. My mind kept making random images, but none of them really expanded or became vivid. I thought it would work if I kept saying some mantra like, "I am there" or something like that, but it just didn't work. I kept doing it until I just realized that it was too late(I guess) To be doing a WILD. The only thing that bothers me now currently is REM. I'm trying again tonight. I don't really wake up naturally during the night, or I just can't remember it. I've also read that putting an alarm 5-6 hours after sleep or whenever is not too good because it wakes you up too sudden, or something like that.

Depends on the alarm and the person. My alarm is the loudest and most grating, repetitive track you there, but nothing less would wake me up, so I keep using it and never fail due to suddenness. If you do set an alarm, try to turn it off fairly quickly, but without putting too much energy into it and it should be okay. Mantras can help with keeping your awareness up, so I'd keep it up.

Uh-huh. So its night-time in my time-zone so I will be attempting WILD soon enough, I'd like a little recap since the REM is only thing kind of troubling me. I go to sleep normally, after setting the alarm to 4 to 6 hours after me going to bed? Because I don't want to enlarge this thread excessively, would you mind me P.M-ing you about further questions?

Pretty much. You can try it at almost any time, as long as its roughly 1 hour and a half after you first go down. 5-6 is considered best, simply because you tend to have longer in the dream, due to a larger REM cycle. And, Feel free to PM me about any other questions.

      Welcome to Dremviews!

      Something about REM

As we sleep, we go through sleep cycles. Each of them starts with NREM and ends with REM. First cycle has about 80 min of NREM and 10 min of REM. But as we sleep, NREM gets shorter and REM gets longer. That's why it's recommended to WILD after some sleep. You can start trying after 4.5 hrs. But clearly, the longer you sleep before your attempt, the better. It doesn't really matter what time you wake up. I would just use any time that you wake up naturaly. Or use a morning nap. In a nap, we go almost straight into REM.

Here are our rcommended induction techniques Induction Methods and Techniques . You can read this basic WILD. And this is the best and most detailed WILD tutorial we have.

We do recommend starting with DILD. But if you up for some experimenting, go for it. And don't worry about asking questions. Ask away. Happy dreams
