      are sleep patterns important?

ive spent a couple of years learning to lucid dream.i don't have a sleep pattern at all I don't work,so I can be up at night and in bed during the day sometimes,my sleeping pattern actually dosent exist as it isn't a pattern really.so,i have a question,do you have to go to bed at the same time and awaken at the same time, must it be a pattern?

      Welcome to DV, scooby!
I'll let someone more knowledgeable on this topic give you a full answer, but I think the general consensus is yes, a regular sleeping pattern does help. I think it comes in handy especially with timing WBTB.
I'm in the same boat as you though, my sleep times are all over the place. I still have relatively frequent LDs despite that, and a few years ago when I was practising more diligently, I was lucid almost every night without putting much thought into my sleeping pattern.
So I would say that it's not essential, but I think it certainly helps.
