Thread: Hey, new LD'er here

I finally decided to join after lurking for the past week

I'm 21 and I'm a geology student in university, I've been interested in learning how to lucid dream ever since I had a crazy dream fantasy adventure in an incredible world, but I woke up without being able to recall it properly and eventually completely lost it.
So far I've been doing reality checks every day and writing down my dreams every morning in a DJ. Also I've been reading and researching sleeping and dreaming (don't know why, just thought it'd help).

I had my first LD after 16 days (I managed to fly around which was cool), it's been about 9 days since then, but I've yet to have more lucid dreams.

Is there anything else I should be doing? And how often should it take to have another LD kick in?

Congratulations! Getting your first deliberate LD in only 16 days is a great success! Don't sweat it too much about the rate that they come, just keep up with your practice and experimentation. It's different for everyone, so there's no "normal" rate of LDs to measure by, and even for any particular person, the frequency with which they come can vary widely. There are times when I've had long and intense LDs several nights in a row, but other times when I've gone weeks or even a couple months in a dry spell. After four years of active practice I'm still experimenting with techniques and trying to figure out which combinations work best... and results are still unpredictable. But what works best overall is to stay interested and motivated! There's a lot of information and support on this site which can aid your practice.

Congrats on the lucid dream. The hardest is to have the first one, but from there, you can manifest many more LDs as you know well the feeling

Lucid dreaming is a great hobby, I would recommend making an "exit point" for LDing, and you cannot quit until that point, and you want to create another exit point from there. I told myself that I have to try and LD and cannot quit until I had been LDing until the year marker. This means that when you want to quit, you just look to that point and say "I will quit then". This helped me out a lot, because sometimes I really really want to quit, but June 12 is the only day I can quit, I have passed it twice, and I made a year promise each time because it is worth it. Try 6 months if you cannot promise a year.

True, first one is the hardest, but only because we tend to not trust ourselves. After the first one, once we know we can do it, trust comes easier. So it's all about trust, knowing, intent and mental preparation. I suggest reading up on DILDs and practicing reality checks, mantras, awareness and ofc writing in dream journal.
