Alternating MJ use and lucid dreaming?

Well guys I'm new to the forum. I finally joined since I felt like I had something to add lol.

So I've been smoking Marijuana for a few years. As much as I love it, it doesn't really work out when my plan is to be a police offi er, so pretty soon I need to quit. Since my ritual had been to smoke at night, I found I needed something new to do, and ended up lucid dreaming by accident.

I was taking a break from weed to lower my tolerance, and couldn't sleep well. After a few days of bad sleep, I just passed out when I hit my bed. And as you may know, after smoking weed a lot, you get REM-rebound. Well I quickly slammed into a dream, and since it had been a while since I dreamt at all, I became lucid almost immediately. After this experience, I did research and got better at LD's, and wanted to share my 'cycle' and see if anyone else does the same thing.

I developed a sort of regiment. I love smoking, but I really do need breaks every few weeks. So what I do now, is I smoke nightly for maybe 4-5 weeks. When I feel I need a break, I wean myself off for just two days, and then stop. The first few days I use melatonin, magnesium and 5-htp supplements to sleep. But the greatest part? Pretty much every night for like 2 weeks, I have an LD! I just find it works so great; it's not "damn I can't smoke for two weeks..." it's now "yeah! I get to live in a world i create myself every night!" and it's awesome.

My question though, is do you guys think it's really the rem-rebound, or placebo? I can't LD after a few nights of smoking, and pretty much as soon as I stop, they come back. To me it's a great tradeoff; lose something great, gain something great! But I really want to know if anyone else does this or something similar

      Hi, welcome!
That’s really awesome that you just decided you wanted something new to do and Lucid dreamed
I have talked to a lot of people that smoked weed for a long time who also happened to have lucid dreams. There is another thread about ‘drugs’ and lucid dreaming. Most people say that weed inhibits your ability to lucid dream. I have found that it inhibits dreaming/dream recall in the short term but it seems that in the long term you have a higher chance of lucid dreaming. The fact that you seemed to do it by accident supports my theory!

I think that you could be onto something with the rem-rebound. To be honest though I don’t know if that is mentally or energetically going to be healthy in the long run. You might drain yourself so be careful. Still awesome to get all those lucid dreams!
For so many years I was always against marijuana as a drug but recently I have come to have a much more open view of it as a plant with the potential to teach us things if we use it in the right way. It things/lifts the veil between worlds/ changes our perceptions. This could be a reason that people who have been taking weed for a while lucid dream easier – because they are more open to it/had certain mind altering experiences already.

I feel the problem is that many people use the plant just for fun or as a habit and it can become a crutch so you are definitely going in the right direction to start weening off it. Training to lucid dream puts the control much more in your own hands and has wider possibilities/potentials in my opinion.

As a side-note to the illegality of weed I think that it is really unfair. Why is alcohol legal if weed isn’t? I mean it does worry me when people drive around stoned, but then there is a law against drink driving, so why can’t weed be legal with these restrictions? It just seems unfair for a natural plant to be illegal.
      sorry little rant.
