      Hi evnik,

Your story is fascinating. Are you able to tell us more about what question you asked and what the reply was?

I am no expert at this having had only one truly lucid dream ever (still trying!) I have read that dreams are the first layer in many layers of astral planes, others of which can be accessed by dissolving away the immediate dream layer and seeing what lies beyond, or by astral projection. Maybe your 'dream within a dream' was a step into a higher astral plane.

Perhaps you stumbled into a higher plane and met something a bit more frightening than you were ready for and you have subconciously protected yourself from going there again. Perhaps trying to convince your subconcious that you will stick to being lucid in just the normal dream level would be the way to go, not sure how you do that though. Just a thought from a newbie.
