Welcome to the forum!
I think you may be confusing sleep paralysis with something else called REM Atonia. Sleep Paralysis (SP) is actually a fairly rare condition that causes you to be paralyzed for a few moments after waking up. REM Atonia, on the other hand, is the normal process your body does every night when you fall asleep - it "deactivates" your muscles so you don't act out your dreams. Everyone experiences REM Atonia when falling asleep, they just usually aren't aware since their mind is usually unconscious. Of course, if you're trying to keep your mind conscious for the purpose of performing a WILD, you may sometimes notice it happening, accompanied by what are called Hypnagogic Hallucinations (HH). It's often mistakenly called SP because sometimes the HH can involve the sensation of paralysis, but it actually means you're already dreaming, and when used correctly, can be used to transition into a WILD.
Of course, it's not even required to experience REM Atonia first hand if you try a technique like MILD or DILD, where you start your lucid dream in the middle of a non-lucid dream. Plus, MILD and DILD are typically much easier for beginners. You can find out more about those here:
