You may also just be hitting a slump. I find that DR (dream recall) goes in cycles. It comes and goes, but if you keep at it, you will get better and hopefully the bad streaks will go away altogether.

Also, stress is public enemy number 1 as far as DR goes. Do anything you can think of to make yourself feel at ease before you go to sleep and in the morning when you wake up. If you have to jump out of bed for school or work or something, you could try waking up 30 minutes earlier and just lying in bed (don't fall back asleep and be late though! you'll have to go to bed early enough that you won't be tired if you do this), relaxing and trying to remember your dreams.

I haven't had any luck with RCs either, the only way they are useful to me is that they keep my mind on dreaming all day. The most important thing about learning to LD is probably just thinnking about it a lot. Some people have beginners luck and are able to have LDs easily when they first start, because it's a mind blowing concept and when people first find out about it they are probably going to be thinking about it all day.
