I also find this to be true. Sometimes I'll recall several full-scale dreams in one night, and sometimes I'll wake up with only a couple flashes of a single dream. Just keep writing down whatever you can remember. No dream is too unimportant to record.
As some others have said, stress can play a part in decreased dream recall. Also, when something is new and exciting, you always perform better than when the newness wears off.
I always forget to do reality checks, too. I was reading EWOLD last night and it was talking about doing reality checks to increase your memory to make MILDing easier. I memorized the reality check targets last night, and do you think I remembered them this morning? No. But I just have to keep trying. My memory sucks ass.
This is good advise. Don't get lazy and stop recording your dreams....This will hurt. As Burns said, there is not a dream that isn't worth recording. Also, reading EWOLD is a great move.
