      My First Month

I found this site on accident not quite a month ago. I found it so interesting that I've stuck around a read quite a bit. Before then I had never heard of lucid dreams.

As I read I found that I had quite a bit going for me. I have always had good dream recall and have always enjoyed pondering over and sharing my dreams with others. And at times in my life I have kept dream journals. One of the best things is that I am very familiar with my dream signs.

So for the past few weeks I have been giving this a lot of thought. I haven't been actively been trying all the techniques, but each night before bed I have told myself that when I see my dream signs, that should trigger lucidity.

Well, after waking unsuccessfully from several dreams with one of my most reoccuring dream signs (my teeth becoming loose or falling out---heard this was a very common one), I started to wonder if I would ever figure it out. In fact, I started to dismiss this whole idea of Lucid Dreams as "Wishful Thinking" and "Ignorant Want".

The night after I dismissed the whole thing, I had my first lucid dream...... LOL. (Good timing) And now I am very excited about this again, because I know that not only is it possible, but it is possible for me.

That was just two nights ago. Last night I was sure I was going to have another one. But I didn't. I think the real test will be to see if that same dream sign will trigger it again. That's what I am hoping for.

Anyway, that is a little introduction about me and what I have done. I have meant to post before now, but better late than never, I guess.

I am thinking about posting my lucid dream, but I still haven't decided where on this board is the best place.

Thanks to all who post here. It's nice to know there is a good support group.

Hey there and welcome to the forum!!
Congrats on the LDs! And the best place to store them would have to be in the Dream Journal section. And if you haven't yet, you should check out the Tutorials!

The Lucid Experiences forum would be a good place to share your dream. And feel free to utilize DV's Dream Journal forum as well if you'd like (but I know you've already started one).

Good luck with everything and have fun!

Thanks to Nesgirl, Danbarber, and Burns for the welcome.

I read though a lot of the tutorial when I first got on this board a few weeks ago, but I'm sure it would do me good to look it over some more.

I will post my dream soon (when I have a little more time.) But the thing that got me the most excited was how very lucid I actually was in the dream. It wasn't just, "Hey, I'm lucid" and then I woke up. I had time to sit and think and appreciate how it all felt. It was pretty amazing. Especially for the first time. But I suppose that it is always a pretty cool experience.

And I was so glad that the moment I woke up I rushed to the other room to write it all down. It is something I don't want to forget.

Also I've decided that my reality check throughout the day will be to check that tooth that was loose in the dream--since that was the thing that triggered my lucidity. And it is one of my most common dream signs. It's worth a try.

Does anyone else here get loose teeth in their dreams? I asked my sister, and she said that happens to her a lot, too. Funny...must be a fear of ours to loose our teeth. LOL

      Thanks again,

      Christine

Losing teeth is a common dream theme, but I've never experienced it personally. Do a search for it and I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of people's experiences.

Yep, I've had this, though only once. This is HIGHLY unusual for me, because I'm never scared or disturbed in my dreams, but I was a bit in this one. I remember I was spitting my teeth into a bucket.

Loosing your teeth in a dream, I believe, is a sign of anxiety or worry. I'm not sure exactly why, though...

Oh yeah, BTW, welcome to the forums!

      Blue Meanie,

      Thanks for the welcome.

Wow, how is it that you don't have any scary or disturbing dreams? Wish I could say that. I have had my share of nightmares over the years. Maybe my problem is that I usually remember 2-3+ dreams a night--I'm bound to have dreams that are less than happy from time to time. Or maybe it's just that I let myself worry about things sometimes and it shows in my dreams.

But I've had 3 recent dreams in the last 4 days that, although not lucid, show that I might be conscious to the point of making things work out. Each was a dream that should have been a nightmare, but turned out fine.

Example: I was being chased by a 10 foot gorilla...and I actually made it to the car before being caught, the keys actually opened the lock, the car actually started, I was actually able to drive away without any problems. I mean, when does that happen in a nightmare??? I woke up and noticed that right away. Funny..

It will be interesting to watch my dreams in the coming weeks and see if there is a noticable pattern.

Oh, know, I have scary dreams, but, I'm never scared in them... it's like they're backfired nightmares that just don't work for some reason...

Yeah.... this is exactly what I get. It's weird... this scary shit happens, but, you end up fine, and never get scared... huh...

      Blue Meanie,

Just read the thread on the General Discussion board about your lack of nightmares. I was surprised by how many people stated that they didn't have nightmares.

Tygrhawk mentioned: "I always figured it was because I now fully realize that nothing in my dreams can hurt me, and my subconscious knows this even when I am not lucid. Just my theory. "

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'd be pretty glad if this were the case!

It's not typical for nightmares to "turn out fine" for me. Often I wake up in terror because I can't handle it. Or--and this has happened more in my adult life, I get to the point where I don't want to have to handle it and I say to myself, "Why am I suffering through this--it's just a dream". And I make myself wake up before things get real bad.

All said, nightmares actually make up a very small percentage of all my dreams. But they are usually pretty memorable.

      Update:

Strangely enough, last night I had another nightmare that "turned out fine."

It's odd because I usually don't have this many "nightmares" this close together.

Brief summery of the dream: My mom and I were in the middle of nowhere in the desert. Suddenly a storm comes, and we can see a tornado forming, and it comes right at us. We look, and to our left is a house that is under construction. We run and find some exposed plumbing pipes and brace ourselves with them. The tornado rips the house off the top of us. But we are not affected in any way be the tornado.

In fact, just like you said, Blue Meanie, there was no fear at all. Just kind of going through the actions.

These have been very untypical dreams for me. I wonder if it has anything to do with the "lucidity" factor.

"Oh, know"??? IDIOT! I meant "Oh, no,"!!!

Sorry! I was drunk last night and wasn't paying attention to my spelling!

(I no this sounds really trivial, but I'm OCD with some things, and grammar & spelling is one of them)

Hmmm... yeah, this is kinda a good way to put it... maybe it DOES have something to do with lucidity...

Another thought I had, cos I've been thinking about this a lot recently, is perhaps it has something to do with not so much having no fear in a dream, but rather our subconcious repressing it when we wake up? Like, we might ACTUALLY feel scared in the dream, but upon waking, we don't remember the fear because we've suppressed it or something. Hmmmm... I'm not totally sure...
