Well its like standing on a spot and spinning around in circles. Its usually used to maintain lucidity and make lucids more vivid. Some times it can accidentally "teleport" you in a dream and some times it can wake you up.
I prefer not to use it as it isn't very reliable.

Hope this helps

[EDIT] Oh and welcome to the forum

Sometimes when you're in a lucid dream, and you want to do something else, or go somewhere else and you don't know how to get there, you just spin around in a circle and imagine being somewhere else, and you'll end up there...

Or if you start to loose lucidity, you can spin around as a way of "re-charging" so you stay lucid longer...

From what I've read there are better ways to increase lucidity, such as staring at your hands or rubbing them together.

Heya, Welcome.

My way of "spinning" or increasing lucidity was by kneeling down and focusing really hard on one object. So far it's always been a success to increasing vividness.
