First of all, my name is Tom, I'm from Australia, im very interested in art and music.
I find the topic of Ld'ing very interesting, for I have tried other ways to achieve states like this, such as drugs, but I always just get really scared and it fucks me up big time. Except for weed, which is the reason i started looking into things like this.... I will explain

I started smoking marijuana when i was about 13 or 14, just casually, but i started using more and more, but the thing is, i never had to smoke much to get high when i was by myself, in the quiet. After a while all i did was literally smoke a bit, about 5 mm in diameter (estimate) anyway the point was it was not much at all. But i had realised that this was all i had to use to get the floating feeling when i lay down in my bed, all i had to do was use a little bit of brain power, as compared to when i smoked heaps i didnt have to do anything myself, it just happened. So after a while of smoking little bits and concentrating on the feeling of floating and my whole body being numb, i started trying it without smoking any weed at all. This was a bit harder but i could do it easily after a while, i could make it feel like my body was spinning or moving in all sorts of direction, i could have OBE and i travelled, still in a lying down position, out to my living room, and saw my family watching television.

I haven't smoked for about 4 months now, and i'm finding it harder to do these things, so i first turned to hypnosis, which is great, and on my way looking around websites, i found out about lucid dreaming, and since i could never fully get hypnotised, since it usually requires a hypnotist, not just an audio track, i decided to try LD'ing!

So far I am trying to remember my dreams well, I already could remember most dreams i had before i started, but i am looking for patterns etc by writing my dreams down. I am hoping to find things that will give it away to me that i am dreaming. I already have some ideas to do while i am lucid, i will post these later, as i dont want this post to be a novel.

IF YOU CANT BE BOTHERED READING ALL OF THE ABOVE PLEASE JUST READ THIS BIT HERE TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to ask if people could give me extra hints to achieve lucidity besides writing down dreams, i have tried napping in the afternoon, but usually i cant sleep or i just go to sleep and dont dream. Or i dont remember my dreams anyway. Also does alcohol reduce your chances of remembering dreams and attaining lucidity? And im taking medication for depression, anxiety and OCD. It's called lovan and i was wondering if anybody knows if this effects your ability also, coz i realised that once i started taking it, i found it much harder to get the floating feeling when i lay down.

Well, what all the Pro's on here are going to tell you to do is start with a WBTB Method (Wake back to bed).

If you want to get right into things, you can try doing the method im doing, which is purely WILD's (Wake Induced Lucid Dream). There's lots of tutorials on this everyone, especially on this site, just take a look.

Also, as a weed smoker myself, weed is going to decrease your chances of becoming Lucid, I've gotten as far as closing my eyes and seeing full color and 3d visuals, the next step is to enter the dream, but I've been to excited and woke up.

WILD's can be amazing, I wish you luck with them, they are hard but stick with it and you will go far.

Hey Tommo - welcome to the forum

To answer your question - yes, alcohol (and weed for that matter) does inhibit your ability to recall dreams. Do a search for either one and you'll find a bazillion threads on the subject.

As Citizin suggested, WBTB is a good method for beginners. I'd also recommend MILD as well. Continue keeping your dream journal and write down anything and everything you are doing relating to dreaming, not just your dreams. Record what you've tried, any results, any progress, any thoughts, etc. This will help you become more aware of what you may be doing right or wrong. Also, check out the Quick Start tutorial for some helpful info as well.

Please feel free to post any questions or experiences you may have. Good luck and have fun!
