Man. I wish I could find that post..

When you are in a full, vivid, lucid dream, in its full potential, it is breathtaking!
This is not something that we are glamorizing.
When you are in a full potential lucid dream, you can see millions of blades of grass. You can feel the wind on your face. You can see your fingerprints. You can feel your muscles work when you move or walk.
      Plus, you can fly! lol!

Ahhh, that's what gets me. The DETAIL.

It's a little bit like looking through a god's eyes.

The first time you gain lucidity (which will happen soon enough if you want it to) you will most likely be blown away by learning that you're not awake, but are actually dreaming. Anyway, anything is possible in (lucid) dreams. Now when I say anything I don't mean whatever you can normally do plus flying and shooting pig-shaped fireballs from your ears. By anything I mean anything. The dream setting can be a complete void or a metropolis with millions of inhabitants. Maybe it has a 5th dimensions or maybe you have a 6th sense. As long as your mind (even just you subconscious) can make it up.

The point is that a lucid dream does not look a certain way by definition. By definition, it is a dream in which you know that you are dreaming. Things that nearly always result from this are your ability to consciously control yourself (or anything else within the dream for that matter. The dream is occuring within you, after all) and with that, a sudden clarity which is amazing to experience, especially the first couple of times.

Besides, if you become lucid and find you aren't pleased with the beauty of your surroundings for whatever reason, you can just change them as you please. How you do that is up to you. Anything can work, from voice commands to magic wands to standing on your head while eating your eyeballs.

Okay, so much for my lucid dreaming propaganda. I'm done now. As much as I seem to be promoting lucid dreaming here, though, everything I've said is true.

Ok, well not so fast y'all - I mean yah, the dreamscape is fascinating and is infinite in possibilities, but it's not always controllable. However, some of the coolest experiences I've had were merely observing the environment - literally staring at a field of grass or a single leaf on a branch could be a thrill.

3D or 2D, millions of colors or black and white (or even "undiscovered" colors&#33. It's really up to your mind, and with control, up to YOU.

Your mind will recall feelings and senses you've experienced in real life to give you the most "real" experience while at the same time using your imagination and expectations of what you might "expect" certain things to be like. For example, it will combine the experience of a rollercoaster ride you've been on with what you may have seen from up top a tall building to simulate the feeling of flying. Really cool stuff.

Lol your dream may change as everyone has stated. I think, though, what you are asking is how it will compare in relative experience to what you know by the "wakeful" state.

Look around. See your pc, the keyboard. Feel the wind on your arms. Notice how your eyeballs move when you look around. Listen to the sound of your pc fan. Lick the screen, see how that tastes. Get up, walk around. That's what your lucid dream will feel like. You will experience everything exactly as it is now, except that you'll be dreaming and be aware that whatever happens now will only happen in dreams.

I hope you get the picture!

It's like actually being in an alternate reality. It feels, looks, and sometimes even tastes as real as actual life. You might want to go and read the tutorials. They will help you immesely while on the road to LDing. If you have picked out a couple of techniques you would like to try, try them for awhile to the letter, and tweak them to fit you. After two weeks, you can start looking into the adoption program. It really helps if you are having trouble. And, if I were you, I wouldn't rush it. You won't have an LD the very first night, or perhaps not in the first month. Keep up the motivation. It will pay off. Oh, and get a Dream Journol. They will help you with your recall.

Hope that helps a bit. Welcome to the forum. If you need any help, feel free to pm myself, another dream guide, or another member who could help you.

Really? I've had ten lucid dreams so far, at least in the last year or two, and not one of them was that vivid, what am I doing wrong?

The easiest way to answer your question, SillyRabbit, is this:

"It varies, just like real life does."

Think about waking life. When you first wake up in the morning, sometimes, you are groggy. Your mind is hazy, you're not quite in tune with your surroundings and you barely even care enough to notice anything.
On the other side, when you are full of adrenaline - when you've just climbed a mountain and are taking in the air, when you're running a football down the field with 7 guys chasing after you, trying to take you down, when you've riding the biggest, wildest, fastest rollercoaster at a theme park - you feel alive. You're noticing more sounds. Your vision has increased. You are more aware.

Such is the nature of how hazy or vivid lucid dreams can be. It all depends on your frame of mind, while having the dream.

You should really check the tutorial about dream realism. You might also be interested in one of BillyBobs posts. You can find it in his signature. It's called "Real lucid dreams", something like that.

So far in my dreams the vividness can be compared to being slighly affected by alcohol. Like after 2 drinks maybe . Still a little blurry
Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

lucid dreams can be as vivid as all these guys said...but to help out the vivivity you need good dream recall. Make sure you keep up your dream jornal!

Most of the times, my LDs are as real as real life... too much so, in fact: I can't yet go through walls and objects because, well, I only bump in it and its physically hurts (just a bit, don't worry). Visually, it's very real, very detailed with rich textures.
However, like normal dreams, the quality may vary : mines are more imprecise in the beginning of the night, and very real on the morning.
But sometimes... dreams are more real than real life. It was the case of the my first ever lucid dream; I don't know how to describe it, obviously but you can see every detail in perfect clarity, "feel" their presence...

This was for the sensations you can get; laws of physics and "continuity" however are less real (maybe this change for more experienced LDer, I'm a beginner): You don't really need to make the full movements to open a door for example, just "think about doing it" (rather than directly going through...) and the moment after you are on the other side...
      Dec. 2006 - July 2007:
      92 DILDs + 30 WILDs ; 75% too short, 24% decent, ~3 of 2 to 5 minutes
      (I stopped counting after that)
