      What Kills Lucid Dreaming?

      Hey everyone..
I really new to lucid dreaming and i have a few question.

Will your lucid be affected when you try to swallow your saliva?

I read a couple of thread before, and they told me that i should remain like a statue until i manage to reach Sleep Paralysis..which i usually did but somehow i kept getting too overwhelm by the fact that im going to be Lucid, and ruin the whole thing! I realise i can be a bitch sometimes..

      Thanks

Just relax, you can swallow and breath normally. You don't have to be stiff like a statue.

And welcome to Dreamviews! Is that a picture of you in your avatar? If so, then you're really hot

My, kelp, if you aren't subtle!

Welcome to DV Basically, as Kelp said, just relax. If you need to swallow, scratch an itch, or if there's something that's bugging you, just address it and continue to fall asleep. Otherwise, all you'll be doing is thinking about what's making you uncomfortable.

As for what else kills lucid dreaming, stress is a big one in general. If you're really stressed out, you won't sleep very soundly and chances are your recall will go down the tube. Also, alcohol and depressants can case you to sleep more soundly and can shorten the amount of REM sleep that you get. So, if you do drink, just keep that in mind.

Amethyst Star, THANKS for the reply...and yes i will try it tonight!
I dont drink, but i do smoke...but i think that kinda help me when i tried WILD.
      well...what do i know?

erm....i went to bed yesterday and had a dream within 90 minutes..it wasnt LD though.

Is it possible that i can reach REM in this amount of time?

P/s- i have a quite weird sleeping schedule, i dont sleep at night. Only in the afternoon...and my room is really dark. Is this going to effect my LD?

like infrared kelp said, you don't have to be like a statue or anything. just let it come natural, you can swallow, but don't focus on that

Yup, REM occurs roughly every 90 minutes. The first REM periods are shorter, but they get longer as the night goes on.

Though I do feel I should mention that we do dream outside of REM, just they usually aren't as vivid or easy to remember.

Many members use multiple techniques. DILD is the easiest and most simple as it only requires reality checking constantly and a good recall. Most people turn this into a regular habit, and at the same time try to Master MILD or WILD and other such techniques.

As for staying Lucid, it just takes practice. Just need to learn to focus and concentrate on the dream and it'll come to you.

welcome! I would like to know what kills lucidity too. I haven't LD's in a few months. so it would be nice to know exactly what i should eliminate from my habits.

I would say DILD is probably the easiest, mostly because all you have to do is a RC and that's you.

There are other methods where you can be more sure that you will be lucid though, which I guess could also define easy.

But the thing about DILD, i dont really find any clue in my dream that can signal any...unnatural thing. I just sometimes...feel the whole dream is like a reality.

I had a dream like 6 of em in the past 4 days and i was not in any of them.
so how can i possible do a RC when im not even in my dream?

I dont think you really have to be involved, just that you can visualize it.

I find that if I wake up early in the morning, then go back to bed after watching TV or something for a bit, it's much easier to spot weird stuff, and become lucid. I've only been lucid for a few seconds using this method, but hey, it's a good way to practice methinks.

I've always found the WBTB method the most successful. It's great for people new to LD's because you don't have to do much. Just keep lucid dreaming in mind, read about it, talk about it to others and keep trying the WBTB method. You'll be ld'ing before you know it.

For me, when I was lucid dreaming, losing concentration would break the lucidity for me.

You have to have really great concentration and focus to keep it going.

I had them randomly when I was younger, but as I got older and started meditating frequently, the lucid dreams also came more frequently.

Gain control over your mind with meditation and you'll get the concentration and control you need to have them more often and increase the length as well.
