You will already be having many dreams a night, it's just that you can't remember them. You can increase your ability to recall dreams with time, but the most effective way is to keep a dream journal. Every morning when you wake up, lie still and try to remember anything that you can from your dreams, and write them down in your journal.
You can learn to do a reality check by just doing them frequently throughout the day. You can pick an object which whenever you see will remind you to do a RC.
And finally, yes you can practice lucid dreaming at any age. Infact the younger you are the easier it is to do, so i've heard.
