      Trouble Falling Asleep???

I'm one of those people that usually has some trouble going to sleep. Obviously it depends on how tired I am but in average I usually need 1 hour to fall asleep and sometimes even more...much more! Besides from that, when I do fall asleep I usually sleep pretty good...it's just this "little" detail that has always made me tick.

I even tried the Brainwave Entrainment but although it helped a little I can't really say it has been a big help.
This can be a problem to me sometimes because if I have to get up early in the morning I tend to be anxious to fall asleep and that even makes it worse.

Usually to fall asleep I just let myself go and try not to think of anything but last night I was trying MILD and realised that everytime I would focus on the ideia of having a lucid dream I would get more awake. And that made me feel a little frustraded because I started to fear never being able to use MILD or any other technique that required concentration before falling asleep.

Anyway...I was just wondering if any of you has had this problem and how did you get over it.
I think that I'm a person with some flaws when it comes to psychological control and I tend to let my fellings take over. Maybe there is a way of streghtning my control over this...I don't know how but I definitly opened to suggestions.

      Thanks in advance.

      Not alone

On average it takes me from a half hour(if im lucky) to an hour and maybe more. It varies. What I suggest you do is to tire out the body. Do extreme excersizes that will make you ache every part of your body. that'll usually make you tired and fall asleep fast. I guess you can practive meditation to and train your mind to calm down and sleep. If that doesn't help you then try this topic. It's a topic fit for your problem.

I don't often have a hard time falling asleep but when I do it is usually because my mind runs in circles. So I have to find a way to concentrate on one thing. You can repeat something over and over to yourself. Something very simple like "I will sleep" Or "Dream Now" or "Cookies are good" or "I love so-and-so" whatever works for you!

The other thing I do is concentrate on relaxing each part of my body starting with my feet moving upwards. Sometimes this works! It is at least worth a try!!! If nothing else very relaxing!!!

I hope you get some sleep soon!!!

P.S. You will find that the more sleep you get the better chance you will have of becoming Lucid. With that said... I am off to bed early for once!! Yay Me!!!

I used to take around an hour to fall asleep too. However I found that listening to the radio helps me get to sleep in around 30 minutes. After about 4 months of listening to music/news/talk shows/CDs on and off I can now fall asleep rather quickly without any sort of aid.

It also takes me about an hour or more during the summer..

I agree with Squall about the radio thing. I've tried it for the first time a couple of nights ago and I surprised myself by falling asleep within like 15 minutes. But make sure the volume's turned down, so it's more of a blur..

Have you tried taking melatonin supplements?

I also agree that tiring out the body is good. When I go swimming, I go for the ENTIRE day, and I sleep like a log at night. Unfortunately, I can't go swimming as often as I'd like.

Yes, listening to the radio will put you to sleep quickly. But I prefer to just watch TV until I fall asleep on commercials.

      Hi Scwigglie!

Yeah I did that. I made a bunch of recorded tapes and DVD's of my favorite commercials all the way back from 1993.

Shadows, why not get a CD with nature sounds? I like those!... except there's a track called "swimming with whales" or something, and UGGHHH it sounds creepy.

      P.S. Hi Jin!

Try eating a whole bunch. Your digestive system will have to digest so much that you'll have to rest.

I have a CD like that. It's called NatureQuest. It's actually my dad's but I 'borrowed' it. Some sounds are creepy. Like the wolf howls.
