      Question relating to marijuana/memory

What's up people? I'm new to this forum, from what I've read I really like it... I have a question concerning marijuana smoking.. I smoke kind of a lot and was curious if anyone thinks this might affect my ability to attain a good lucid dream because of it's effect on memory. I've had 3 lucid dreams, none of which I've really had any control but each time I've been able to understand a little more about the process. I just started writing in my dream journal and it definitely is improving my dream recall but I feel if I cut down on smoking, or stopped completely there may be a much greater dream recall ability? Does anyone else here smoke or have any opinion on this? It would be appreciated.. Thanks

Thanks, well I got kind of interested in the idea of lucid dreaming a while ago and at the time had some recurring dreams of tsunamis coming. One of the dreams I realized I were dreaming as the wave hit and ran around on top of the water yelling that I was dreaming but the excitement woke me up. It was a cool experience but I kind of just ignored it until maybe a month ago when I started getting back into the idea. Since then I started checking my hand throughout the day for 5 fingers, and have had 2 cases where I had more and less than 5 fingers in my dream causing me to lucid dream... Neither time were long or controlled. After this I've started writing in a dream journal and the recall is improving I'm just at a debate because I love smoking weed, but at the same time I really love the idea of controlling my dreams.

      MJ and Lucid Dreams

I just woke from a lucid dream and it led me here. When I smoke weed regularly, my ability to have vivid non-lucid dreams disappears. Then when I stop smoking, I have vivid, amazing, almost life altering non-lucid dreams for the first week or so after quitting smoking. The dream I just had was a typical lucid dream for me. I dreamt that I was unable to control my body, but could see my surroundings, almost as if I was awake. When I realize I am dreaming, I have the ability to alter my perceptions, i.e. a beautiful woman just walked in the room. For me, these type of dreams pale in comparison to the dreams that you do not control. The unconscious mind is way more creative. Now whenever I have lucid dreams I struggle to wake up, and I feel somewhat paralyzed. I do have lucid dreams more often when I have been smoking, but to me they are a nuisance. If you want amazing dreams, then smoke a lot for a couple of weeks, and then stop. If you want lucid dreams smoke weed and take long naps, it will put you in the half-wake state you need to be in.

Well, it doesn't really make a difference to me (as Aquanina said). I mean, as long as I go to sleep sober, and not high, I don't notice a complete difference. But as you said, it does cloud your memory a bit, so it could be impairing in recall sense.

      Hope that answered your question!
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.

Using marijuana to lucid dream is like cheating, it's great at first, and you will often get LD's.. But, like any cheat, it'll come back to bite you in the ass- your recall, your lucid dreams- all will begin to decline.

It's probably best to just do it the right way, you dream hacking fools.

To be honest I don't notice a difference in dream recall whether I smoke or not. I think that if you change your daily routine, whatever that may be, it will have an effect on your dreams. So if you usually smoke alot and then stop, it will affect your dream recall. And vice versa.

Also welcome to the forum...isn't it the best freaking feeling ever when you are in a dream/nightmare and you realize you're dreaming and start doing a victory dance!? lol. Next time though, so you don't wake yourself up, hold off on the celebrating until your LD is a little more stable.

Well I don't use it to induce lucid dreaming, nor did I think it could be used to do so lol. I thought it may be restricting my ability to recall dreams, and in the end my ability to become lucid as easily as I'd like.

Haha yeah it definitely is an awesome experience. The last time I because lucid I told myself to stay calm and this seemed to make it last a little longer but I tried to stay so calm that I was afraid trying anything would wake me up. Now I know about the hand friction and spinning techniques so hopefully next time I'll remember to try them out and not worry so much about waking up.

I know you don't, I just said that because of Seefu's post which seemed to suggest that smoking helps you LD.
