      Hi, I'm new!

Hello, I became interested in lucid dreaming just two days ago, and I am interested in trying different methods to achieve LD. I used the HILD (Hypnotism-Induced Lucid Dreaming) method to recall my dreams last night. In one of them, I was lucid for part of the time, but lost my lucidness after becoming distracted.

On another note, about the "reality checks" and "dream cues", I saw many impossible things, but did not recognize any (because I was dreaming.) If you are able to do a reality check in a dream, doesn't this mean you are probably already aware of your state, thus defeating the purpose?

      Thanks, I'd appreciate any help.

      Welcome, KingofKirby,

I understand where you are coming from with the reality checks. Ususally by the time I'm questioning my state in a dream, I instantly become lucid and never need to check it with a reality check. But there have been a couple rare instances where I have deliberated back and forth whether or not I'm dreaming, and in those cases, they can make the difference.

Most of the time I feel that doing reality checks during the waking hours is useful in just helping you question your state. I do this throughout the day (though most of the time I just ask myself without doing anything physical.) And I feel that doing this has really helped me to have the lucid experiences that I have.

Good luck KingofKirby. Have you read the quick start Guide at the top of this Newbie Zone? There are useful links and good info to help get you going.

      to DreamViews KingofKirby!

Another good technique to look into is FILD. It's located in the tutorial section.

MILDs and FILDs are alright, but learn how to recognize dream signs too so that you can have DILDs, they are lucid dreams without any effort, the best kind.

Do reality checks anyways, even if you've already realized its a dream. It'll only help to reinforce it.

As mentioned before, Dream signs and stuff are things that are reoccuring. In order to find your dream sign, you should review stuff from your dream journal (if you have one), and then try to find similarities.

The purpose of RC's, is to make them into a habit. The most basic way of using an RC, is hoping that by doing them enough in waking life, you'll accidentally use one in the dream world. There are many other uses for RC's, but this is the most common.

Besides all this, RC's help me ground myself in the dream world, besides the spinning, the hand rubbing, etc this is what really gets me into the world.

AIM me if you have time!!!... I'm needy
Holy crap I just had my first LD 11/25/07

Ah. I agree. When i do an RC, and find out I'm dreaming, i do a couple more just for kicks, and to increase my vividness. Since I've sadly been on a dry streak (I WILL BREAK IT TONIGHT) I haven't had time to test out Rc's!

I just have a quick question.

Will stacking methods increase the change of an LD?

      eg: HILD + MILD?

I tried it last night but I didn't remember a single dream!

I would like to think so. I usually try to pack as many techniques as I can into a session, like combining MILD with WILD and etc.

I'm really not sure, but I would like to think so. You'll have to experiment to see what works for you best.

And for remembering dreams, try to recall anything that you can and write it down. Even if it's just a fleeting scrap of memory, or even a feeling, write it down. It'll improve very quickly, trust me.

As Grod said... It might work, but I don't think alot of stuff has been done on it. Alot of techniques can't really be "stacked" foresay, like WILD and DILD could never be stacked.. you know?

Keep experimenting and let us know how it works out.

You might want to use autosuggestion too, to remember your dreams.

By autosuggestion, you mean repeating " I will remember my dreams." right?

I did that the first night, remembered three dreams. But doesn't that mean you can't do any other techniques that night?

Auto-suggestion is repeating over and over "I will remember my dreams". But this does not prohibit you from doing other methods. I find auto-suggestion and WILD to work pretty well together. While you focus on your breathing and relaxation, you can simply think to yourself "I will have a lucid dream..." and it's auto-suggestion and WILD at the same time.

So yes, you were correct on auto-suggestion, but you can do other techniques as well.

It seems that autosuggestion is a popular tool for improving dream recall. But it is hard for me to understand how to use it. It seems that you must repeat a phrase in your mind ("I will remember my dreams when I awake.") until you fall asleep. The first night I tried this I got three dreams. Then I got none for three days. To use autosuggestion, are you just supposed to keep on doing that for a week or so, and then you will start automatically recalling dreams better? Because it seems to me that you can't use any LD techniques when you are using autosuggestion.

On a separate note, I awoke this morning disappointed, as I remembered no dreams. Suddenly, I found myself thinking of my friend for some reason. As I concentrated on him, I suddenly remembered every detail of my dream last night. It was amazing. Is that supposed to happen?

On yet another separate note, I would like to ask what the best technique is for someone who :

      1) Goes to sleep at 9-10 o'clock.
      2) Cannot get up in the middle of the night unless all I have to do is just stay awake in bed for a while (with lights off.)
      3) Must wake up at 7:15.
      4) Is willing to practice for as long as it takes and is truly dedicated to Lucid Dreaming!

Thanks for reading this long post
