Hi, any tips on dream recall?

Hey, i recently found out about lucid dreaming and want to try it, but first i need to improve my dream recall because, well, its awful.
If I'm lucky I'll remember a dream every two nights and the details are quite sketchy, so I've started a dream journal and I've heard that using your senses more often during the day can make your dreams more vivid, is that true?

to DreamViews!!! (Fourth member I've welcomed) I don't know how to use your senses more during the day... They're working all the time... Doing reality checks will help... Cover your nose and try to breathe... Good job having the patience for a dream journal... I can't get myself to have one... Hehe...

      Thanks for the welcomes .
I'm constantly doing reality checks throughout the day so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the link to the tutorial, it explains a lot.

      Hey Blur, welcome to Dreamviews!

Xox linked you to the tutorial about dream recall, which should answer most of your questions. Do be sure to keep a dream journal, though, I have found that journals are extremely effectvie for both dream recall and lucidity.

If you should have any questions, feel free to contact me or any of the other dream guides.

      Hey Blur,

First of all, welcome to dream views!

For dream recall: As soon as you wake up, say random words in your head. Like dog, work, park, party, car, girl... Just any words. Then sooner or later you'll hit one of the words and that will make you remember one of your dreams. Works most of the time.

Try to use that senses as much as possible during the day and that can make you recall better.

Thanks for the help, I've remembered at least one dream every night for a few nights now. One step closer to lucid dreaming.

About the vividness and using of senses during day:

Its pretty simple if approached from perspective. You build a habit of using senses consciously during day, and this habit moves indirectly in your dreams. Just this helped me to have most of my dreams, and yess. It increased vividnes, while i was in a dream.

But vividness while being in a dream and vividness after waking up are two distinct things. Vividness in a drean is also dependent on lucidity level, and vividness after waking up depends on how you can describe visuals. SO doing some scene description could help you invoke more memories.

Welcome! What I do if I can't remember the whole dream at once is to backtrack, I ask myself for example, how did I end up on the beach? and it usually comes to me. Hope thats helpful.

      Tips on recall:

Be enthusiastic about your dream journal. Don't be lazy

Read DV threads ALL day and talk to people on the chat about lucids.

BELIEVE you're going to remember your dream. SEE yourself remembering in the morning and writing your dream in your DJ.

Chant something RIGHT before you go to sleep "I am going to remember my dream when I wake up. I will write it in my dream journal. I will have a lucid dream" repeat.

All of those will definately improve your recall

Yesterday i managed to recall two dreams in one night, however the first one was pretty short and not very vivid, but the second dream was quite a bit longer (one of my longest dreams actually) and really vivid. I didn't think a dream journal would help that much but it has. I'm glad i found this site, at least if i can't lucid dream then i can remember some quite interesting ones

Good to hear! As you continue keeping a dream journal, you'll find not only that it helps your dream recall, but your lucidity as well. By writing down your dreams, you'll get to know what they're like - increasing your chances of realizing that you're dreaming while in a dream.
