      Unhappy A simple question .. ?

Hi everyone , I am new here and new in LDing , I really try to have one now but until now for 3 days I didn't have any LD .. But once before 7 years maybe I dreamt that my big brother was killed in that moment I knew that I am dreaming, and I couldn't continue the dream so I decide that I have to wake up and that is what I did .. But I didn't know that this is lucid dreaming until now ...

But my question is about lucid dreaming techniques ..

in the most of the techniques you have to wake up after 5 hours or something like that
then you have to stay awake for a little time then sleep again.. But is there any technique you can have a lucid dream with it without getting up, then going to sleep again ?
Does a reality test and a dream journal enough ?
      because I don't have a specific dream sign ..

Yesterday I don't remember my dream but I remember knowing that I am dreaming then suddenly I only see black and the dream began to fade ..

      Is that normal ?

Hey there, hope I can answer a few things here for you. Here goes.

The techniques in which you wake up are called "Wake-Back-To-Bed" or WBTB. You can combine WBTB with another method in order to increase your chances of having a lucid dream on a specific night.

HOWEVER, not everyone likes this and in this case your alternatives are Reality Checking and self-affirmations. If you can make an effective habit out of Reality checking, and reminding yourself before bed that you 'will check reality and remember you are dreaming' (for example)....then you may have a good chance of becoming lucid. It may take longer to get used to, but you will have some success.

You may not have a specific dream sign (i dont think I do either), but you can reality check anyway. You have to constantly watch out for "strange things". Something unusual happening near you? See something new? Check reality! Its about watching for things that arent normal. You dont need specific dream sign to do this.

Sounds like you had a lucid dream...but got excited and woke up instantly. This is normal for your first few tries. look in the 'dream control' forum section for tips on staying in the dream.

I find that CONSTANTLY watching for unusual things throughout the day is HARDER than trying WBTB techniques. I wake up after 5-6 hours....go to the bathroom and then go straight back to bed. This means I lose almost no sleep, so it doesnt make me tired. That said WBTB techniques are more complex, and reality checking is much more simple. (having said all this, reality checking is important to ALL lucid techniques because without it...how do you know when you are dreaming?)

      Hope this helps you out!

Thanks James for the replay ,
I don't think realty checks are harder, maybe you need to practice so much, the problem is in WBTB , I dont get up at night also because I'm tired and thinking about going to school when I wake up so I hate waking up in the middle of the night.. Today I woke up for school at 6 but it turns out that we don't have school today so I went to sleep at 8 and I really focused in having a lucid dream but I didn't have one and really didn't have too much sleep because of thinking, but when I dreamt, I dreamt that I woke up and start to write my dream but actually I didn't !

Anyway I will focus in the RCs and I hope that I will have a nice LD .

Thank you very much, it really helped me .

It sounds like you had a False Awakening (FA) this morning. This is a sign that you are very close to a lucid dream. It shows that you were more conscious and focused on dreaming. You also had a brief lucid dream the other night when you woke up prematurely. It sounds like you are very close. Keep up what you are doing, and I'm sure you will have a lucid dream soon. It takes a little time because you are building new habits.

Try to do a lot of reality checks right before you go to sleep, and tell yourself, "The next thing I see, will be a dream. The next time I'm conscious, I will be dreaming."

I bet, once you get a good lucid dream, you will be so excited you will be itching to do as many WBTBs as you can.

If you want a technique that does not interfere with your sleep schedule, try a dream re-entry technique like this one:

yeah JSM, when I was at school I still managed to WBTB. Maybe try friday or saturday nights? If not, then work on other Reality Testing techniques. These require more effort when awake, and less when sleeping. Which is the opposite of WBTB.

I REALLY like this guide, and had some success before I moved back to WBTB....maybe you will like it too

its basically...a method where you TRY to be constantly aware of your surroundings. Therefore, you should be able to notice absolutely everything that changes. THe downside is it may distract you from other things...but if you are determined

Thank you all for everything, I hope I am close to a lucid dream . And thanks for the links.. I am trying to do realty checks every time when I remember after going to bed, in school, in the cinema, everywhere and I think looking to my hand and write anything on it is useful, right ?

Thank you very much James for the link.. Even that it really disappointed me, because it is really hard, but I am trying to make my way of realty checks just by looking to my hand and asking my self if I am dreaming no or not and also by checking everything around me .. But I'll try that Dream Yoga ..

Yeah, you don't really need to WBTB to Lucid Dream. But it does help get your mind a little more alert. And helps with recall as well. I don't do them for more than a few minutes. That's usually enough for me.

But the important thing is to just keep an alert look out for anything dreamlike. And do a lot of reality checks.
