      I'm New, and Have Sleeping Problems...

      First and foremost, hello everyone!

      Now, down to the point. Actually, two points:

      One, as you can tell, I am a night owl, and cannot help but stay up past onish or later. Any suggestions on how to help myself feel tired earlier?

      Second, everytime I DO start to fall asleep, I start getting very excited (I excite easily) about trying to enter a lucid dream (I'm currently trying a FILD using Swikity's method) and lose the slight sleepy state I'm in. Help?

      Hi! I'm new too.

      I have the same problem. I don't sleep until around 7 or 8 am the next morning and don't wake up until 5pm. My schedule is completely flipped.

      1.You can try staying up until the next day to regulate your sleep. (Probably not the best idea.)
      2. Tire yourself out by working out earlier in the day.

      As for the other issue.
      Just try to relax, if that doesn't work try camomile tea.

      That happens to me too, I go to sleep at 6 am (thats 40 minutes from now ) .

      What I do ...sometimes is to stay awake till 4 or 5 pm, and go to sleep, I wake up the next day at 7am (approximately) . My problem is that instead of going to sleep that day at 8pm (for example) I stay awake, again till 4 am -.-

      See, my schedule changes constantly. I can go from being asleep at midnight one night to 4 o'clock other nights (last night). I'm fifteen years old. Is that normal? And how SHOULD I relax and keep my mind away from lucid dreaming while going to sleep?

      You should try laying down in the dark at the same time each night. Even if you don't fall asleep your body will get used to it. You can just lay down an whatch TV for a while, just make sure the lights are not on and that you are comfortable. It may help to make yourself wake up earlier and spend most of the day doing physical activity in bright light (or at least stay in tha light at day).

      Firstly there's little point to getting excited about entering a lucid dream in the beginning of the night since your REM will happen only hours later.

      The best way to fall asleep earlier at night is to wake up earlier in the morning.

      Laying off the video games when it gets closer to bed time will help as well.

      You can look up "Sleep Hygiene" tips to get some good ideas. The most important thing, as Mes and gagaku mentioned, is regulating light in your environment. Your body sets it's clock with the days light/dark cycle. TVs or computer monitors can interfere with this.

      Meditation before bed should bring your heart rate way down and continuing meditation during your FILD attempt should keep adrenaline from going into your system and waking you up.

      As for your sleep schedule, it's something that has to be changed slowly. Start going to bed at 12:20, then 12:00... Back it off slowly until you're in a regular sleeping pattern.

      Running will also make you tired. Go running for a few miles then come back and take a long hot shower, should knock you right out.

      You're not FILDing as you go to sleep at first right? That doesn't work because you don't go into REM. You need to sleep for about four hours first, then you can wake up and FILD.

      Thanks for all the hits so far! I'll make sure to check out each of them.

      @ gagaku, Mes Tarrant, and Robot_Butler: I used to sleep fine with the tv on, but as Robot Butler said, it could interfere with my body's internal clock, so should I sleep w/o any light or should I stick with the tv?

      @ninja9578: I don't FILD as I first go to sleep. I spent almost a whole day trying to decide what method could be easiest, and lead to the quickest lucid dream.

      You could lay still and whatch TV before bed, but I would suggest turning the television off at night. If you need a light, then you could use a night light.
