      Thoughts from a newbie

      Hello fellow LDers !

First I must say that I am really glad I found this site. It's the best on the topic I've seen so far.

I am a rookie and so far I've only had 5 LD, but all of them were fully lucid and I was able to take control - at least most of the time.

The first LD I had about a year ago and during that time I didn't even have any idea what LDs are nor had I ever even heard the word before. I guess it was a lucky side effect of an insomnia problem I had back then. I had trouble sleeping a full night through, so I got up in the middle of the night, watched some TV and went back to bed after an hour or so. Now I realize that this is the Wake-Back-To-Bed technique, but I had no clue during that time. Anyway, in the dream I had I somehow realized that the situation was strange. I was standing in a bar talking to my buddies when all of a sudden I asked myself where I actually was and how I had gotten there. I didn't have an answer so I realized that I was dreaming. I can tell you: that was one of the most exciting moments in my life. After realizing I was in a dream I figured that everything around me was just taking place in my head and that therefore I should be able to take control. I tried to fly and it worked ! The next morning I couldn't stop thinking about my dream and when I talked to a friend about it, he told me that it was entirely impossible to be aware that you're dreaming while you're dreaming because your consciousness is inactive while you're asleep. But since I knew I wasn't crazy I went online and discovered the phenomenon of lucid dreams.
The following night I had another LD and this time I experienced 4-5 false wakings in a row which actually kinda scared me because I had a feeling to be caught in an endless loop of fake wakings and that I would never "really" wake up again.
Then I started doing RCs every day (as recommended on some web pages) and I had another LD in the same week. But despite 10-15 RCs every day for about a month, that was the last one I had for a long time. I gave up the RC routine and accepted the though that this was it for the LDs.
As I said, that was about a year ago. Now I had 2 LDs in the last 2 nights again. Both were pretty stable and in one I was actually able to spawn things.
Now I'm afraid to lose the LD ability again for a long time or forever. So what can I do to keep the momentum ? Should I worry if I go a couple of days without a LD ?

      To DV forums, sjones
      Congratulations on having your LD's
Your lucky that you were able to control the dream, even though it was your first time. For lots of people, the first LD is hard to control.

You can never lose the ability to LD and dont be worried about it if you got a few days without one, its entirely normal, especially if youve only had a few LD's

Anyways, welcome, and good luck with future LD's

      Welcome sjones!
It sounds like you're already on the right foot with LDing although I must advise you to never worry when it comes to LDing. Being stressed and/or anxious never helps, it only hurts your chances of LDing. o my advice is to accept the fact that you will have some (possibly many) nights that you wont LD, so its best not to get all worked up about it.
