How the real world affects dreams.

I've had quite a few few occurrences of this, as I'm sure some of you also have. Basically, I'm talking about when you dream is affected by something that is happening in the real world simultaneously.

For instance, in a non-lucid dream I had, I had these stomach pains that were pretty bad, but I woke up and it turned that I had indigestion.

For an even better example, I was non-lucidly dreaming that I was at some place with a bunch of my friends, and one of them started barking like a dog, but I woke up a few seconds later, realizing that it was my actual dog who was barking.

But the question is, can we use this to our advantage? I was thinking, if we had like, a specific song or something set to go off right at the best time to be lucid, and you had it set it in your mind that this would be your dreamsign, so you would be able to hear the song while dreaming and easily become lucid! Would this work? Has anyone tried this before?

ooo weird.... maybe it would work.

My alarm is set to music, really light music and if I'm expecting a specific sound then it'll wake me up rather than influence my state.

also often have this ^^. its so funy. it makes me having a deeeeeep sleep, cause every noise in real world is gonna be integrated into the dream^^.
what about a song like: "YOURE DREAMING!-YOURE DREAMING!-YOUR DREAMING!..."

Edit: but believe me. THIS wont help you gettin lucid. the sounds are INTEGRATED into your dream, so they don't wake you. i think when youre realizing that your friend can impossibly bark like your dog, you will wake.

      Sounds interesting !!
It might work if the noises are subtle enough and your a strong enough sleeper !

Heh, I remember once I fell off a cliff and seriously FELT the "thump" at the bottom. In the morning I found out I fell out of my bunk. I was sore all day. >.O

But really, I think it IS possible to use this. There was some machine or something (don't remember what it was called) that would detect your rem-period and flash lights in your eyes which you were supposed to use as a dream sign. Aparently it worked for some people. (Or like me, you can take turns with your siblings and have them wake up at 3:00AM to flash a flashlight in your eyes.

Almost the same thing as your talking about. They made a song which tells you that you are dreaming.
      quoute
      " I am aware I'm in a dream! " "
      "I am aware that I'm dreaming! "
" You will remember to check your reality, and indentify that you are in a dream state! "

hello? this experience is a trick by your brain to keep you sleeping! believe me. i have experience with this.
once my mum send me an SMS (she was on vacation) in mid night and it got integrated into my dream, so i dont wake (i got an SMS in my dream ), then i realized that this is impossilbe, cause my handy is almost always off (especially when beeing at school) and when the the "SMS-sound" occured for the second time i waked up.

That's totally nuts that you would be able to fall out of a bunk and still remain asleep.

You ever had that feeling of falling when your half asleep and half awake?
Like your getting to the start of sleep and are thinking about walking down some stairs, then all of a sudden your body 'jumps' and you all shook up.
