is lucid dreaming like the Matrix film

hello all, i am new to dream views and new to lucid dreaming.

4 days ago i started writing ina dream journal, and have remembered at least one dream per night (and often a vauge/distorted memory of other dreams that night).

i have done research on internet to understand as much as possible because apparently the more i understand about LD the more likely i am to have one. i understand the basic concepts of a lucid dream (you are aware that your dreaming and take control) but do not have a complete understnading of it.

i thought of the matrix film and is it a good metaphor for lucid dreams?

-the matrix is the dream world

-our average basic dream is like being normal people in the matrix, unaware that they are in the matrix

-our basic lucid dream is like being the side charactsers in the matrix, aware they are in that matrix and able to control thier actions

-the advanced lucid dream (where we can change our enviroment in an instant) is like being neo in the matrix, aware he is there, aware that it is not real, and thus able to alter things on cue by truly believing that he can.

is this a good metaphor for newbie lucid dreamers (who have not had lucid dremas yet) to help them understand the concept, thus improve the chances of having one

I'd say the Matrix is an excellent metaphor for lucid dreaming...I think I myself have used it to describe LDs to the uninitiated (except obviously the part about dieing IRL if you're killed in a dream). As for how closely an LD parallels abilities in the Matrix, I'd say your descriptions are pretty accurate. However, even having a low-level lucid generally grants you abilities beyond what, say, Trinity and Morpheus are capable of. For example, flying or "super jumping" is not terribly difficult in an LD. Similarly, I'd say that in a high-level LD, you'd have powers far beyond what Neo is capable of in the movie. From what I've seen, the only powers he uses are flying, stopping bullets in midair, and super-combat. I guess he also brings Trinity back from the dead, but I'd don't see that situation coming up too often in an LD Whereas in a high-level LD you can do things like teleportation, telekinesis, summoning/conjuring, walking through walls, changing form, time travel, etc (the list is endless). Interestingly, I haven't tried this, but I bet it would be very difficult, conceptually, to stop a barrage of bullets in an LD (high level or otherwise). Might be a good idea for the task of the month (though I bet it would be hard to set up).

Anyway, welcome to the boards and best of luck in your quest for LDs!

hey man. i am a freakin HUGE fan of the matrix trilogy, and i totally agree with endymion. The matrix IS a dream world (quoted by morpheus). all of the redpills have gone lucid, and all of the bluepills are non-lucid. Neo is the one, so he is the dreamer of this particular dream, so he has all the powers of a typical LDer. I'll bet that Neo could do things like walk thbrough walls, morph, etc. but he just doesnt. im sure he has the power.
Do not try and bend the spoon--that's impossible. Instead only try and realize the truth...there is no spoon. Then you will see that it is not the spoon that bends

      it is only yourself
