      Just sayin' hey!

Hey. Just introducing myself. I'm Crux, I'm 25yo from Iowa, USA. I've long been fascinated by my dreams and the crazy things my mind comes up with. I've only recently been keeping a journal (past 2 years), but nothing really hardcore, only when I have an exceptionally vivid and amazing dream. That is until I found this site and read about LD's. I've considered it before, being able to control my dreams, but never really given it much thought or dedication.

I've tried a few different recording method's, most were just after I was at work, I'd type it out, but I'd often forget a lot of detail by that time. So then I tried a small recording device but found talking a dream out is way more difficult then I had intended! Pen and paper I always figured would just be a horrible idea because I write bad enough when I'm fully awake and have light lol! What I finally settled on works out pretty well. I just keep a netbook (read: very small laptop) next to my bed, and have an open notepad ready to go and just put my laptop to sleep. I've been doing this for about a week now and I'm pleased with the results I've had. Weekends I seem to have and remember more than during the week due to not getting as much sleep due to work and the like. But my dream recall rate has been amazing.

BTW, if you want an awesome organization method for your e-dream journal, I found tiddlywiki to be an excellent method for that. Simple, neat, and fully customizable since it's basically just a blank HTML page that you build up from yourself. You can google it if interested. Here's a pic of mine after I customized it a little and got it going how I liked:

Well, this is getting long, I was going to post the odd dream I had last night, but I think I'll just start a journal thread. Meet me there!

Woah! When I first saw your name, I thought that I knew someone that was named Crux, but then figured I was wrong... Then I saw your avatar! Thats Elfen lied! Someone named Ray has that avatar...

Anyway... And sorry for the distraction...

I'm glad you already have a dream journal, they are really helpful.

Have fun, and I assume you already checked out the tutorials section?
      Bollocks.

yeah, crux is just one of those names I got to using online and use it all over in forums and the like now.

but yeah, have definitely read through the tutorials. I've actually been doing some consciousness studies which is what lead me to lucid dreaming and here where I read about the book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. On chapter 2 so far.

I like your setup for journaling. It sounds like your HTML based program could open up some fun opportunities for archiving and later searching, once you get a ton of dreams in there. Much easier to search, annotate, and tag than my pile of dusty tape-covered notebooks.

I see you already have started an online dream journal too. Awesome!

If you have any questions, feel free to post them, or send me a PM.

I'd have to agree that tiddlywiki is an excellent way to keep a dream journal. I've been using it for the past few days and I love it! Never has it been so east to keep my dreams organized. Now all I have to do is remember to use it...

See, that would be my problem... Remembering to do it.

I just keep mine in either a real notebook, or write some notes down on my hand if things come to me during the day.
      Bollocks.

yeah, writing it down is probably quicker/easier but my hand writing is so horrible, i can't imagine trying to go back through it and deceifering what i wrote later.

but still, there's just something about a notebook, full of your thoughts in your handwriting, and seeing page after page of you on paper. doodles and sketches and the like. can't ever get that same exact feeling with a computer, it's too impersonal, loses some of that individuality. It's so much easier to color with though! and...I mean, i guess i could find an unreadable font and use that?

but yeah, that tiddlywiki can be hard to customize if you don't have some basic knowledge of HTML and CSS. It took me like an hour just to figure out how to change the background color of the textarea when in edit mode. so if you want to try putting your own color schemes together or what have you, PM me and I'd be more than happy to help with what I can.

Yeah that teddywiki setup you got going on is pretty badass man. I might have to switch from the ole notebook to it!
Anyways, welcome to DVs!!! Don't hesitate in asking any questions about anything your unsure of or having trouble on. I, personally, am pretty good at WILDs (Wake-Induced Lucid Dreams), so drop a few question my way if you're interested in that form of LDing!

Here's the Acronym List to get you started.

True, true. I'll make sure to get any others I used sanctioned by the Acronym Naming Institute first...
