      Question Mid-day Recall

Does anyone find that sometimes they don't remember any dreams at all when they wake up, but then things throughout the day remind them of their dreams the previous night?

for example, i woke up this morning thinking I had recalled nothing, which made me a bit sad because my recall has gone through the roof in the last few days compared to before my interest in LD, where I hadnt recalled a dream in months.

i just found my Sharpie permanent marker, and it reminded me that I had a dream in which some girl was trying to tell me that MY sharpie belonged to her (this made me quite angry haha)
and i have just recieved an SMS from my friend Greg who got fired from the pub next to my house yesterday, and i reminded me that I had had a dream in which he was being sick in the pub toilets because he got too drunk after being fired.

does this happen to anyone else?

This happens to me quite frequently. Almost daily I'll be in the middle of a conversation, when I interrupt myself by exclaiming something along the lines of, "Oh yeah! I just remembered a dream I had last night!"

This is pretty common, actually. My dad also has this happen to him a lot.

I actually had this happen not too long ago.

I was at work, and one of the employees started yelling at the break room door because they couldn't remember the combination, and I was like, "hey, that reminds me of that dream I had last night in which the door code got changed and so I burned down the door!"

      Yes..

I am sure this is the basis for de ja vu's...

Certainly, little memory joggers help bring back past dreams for me. What's even cooler is when you just suddenly have a bunch come back to you, like a floodgate's been opened.

Yup, happens all the time to me. Once I saw my green bangle (it was St. Partick's Day) and I rememebered a really long dream involving a little girl stealing it, a pirate ship, and forgetting to wear my life jacket in the car in case someone shot us. It's funny how every time I remember a dream I wonder how in the world I ever could have forgotten it.

haha, since i posted this earlier iv had two more dreams come back to me from lastnight, one in which my housemate had crushed a load of thai crackers into my bedroom carpet, and another in which i bumped into my old housemate from a year ago.

i can deffinately see how this links in to de ja vu. There have been occasions in the past where I've come across a situation in my day where i feel like i've previosuly dreamed the exact situation. Usually gives me a strange churning feeling in my gut too.
Maybe it's just that the situation reminded me of a dream in which a few characteristics were similar.

i've never really taken an interest in the tricks the mind can play on you before. I'm enjoying these forums.

Yup, weirdly for me, the most random things make me remember dreams. Like if I'm petting my rabbit I'll remember a forest.. It usually has nothing to do with my dream detail, I dunno. perhaps it does in some unknown way.

Then sometimes I find it hard to distinguish whether it was a dream, or whether it actually hapenned.

That reminds me of a time when I dreamed that I wrote down two dreams in my dream journal. Then I woke up and I couldn't figure out why nothing was there.

It happens when I am doing something during that day that I did in the dream.

Sometimes I just remember some dreams I had (not recorded in my journal) that I guess left a strong impression in me, but this happens randomly.
TODAY is the greatest day of all!!!
