How long have you been keeping a dream journal thusfar? I dream journaled for a week or so before trying any techniques. The purpose of dream recall is to recall the lucid dream in perfect detail, once you have one. By recording your dreams, you can identify common themes after a while (dream signs).

I highly suggest moving towards DILD, especially as a beginner.

You can really jump right into it, although building up your recall is pretty important. If you're just starting out, I think it's better to work on DILDs versus WILDs, just because a lot of people struggle with them from the beginning and they can seem daunting and demoralizing if you're losing sleep directly trying those techniques and maybe not getting results. As far as the DJ goes, as soon as you start recognizing recurring things you've found your dreamsigns, and you should ALWAYS be reality checking
