      Newbie says 'Hello!'

I couldn't find a waving smiley so a banana will have to do

Thought I'd introduce myself to you lovely people. I've been lurking the forum for a few days and then decided to register. I saw a program on TV the other day and it was about dreams. Lucid dreams came up and i decided to do some research on t'internet and eventually found myself here. Needless to say, I've become very excited at the prospect of learning how to have a lucid dream or perhaps increasing my chances.

I think I might of had a lucid dream some time ago. I remember realizing I was in a dream and attempting to fly. I never got more than a few inches off the ground and was effectively floating past people and bumping my knees on the floor. I remember getting increasingly frustrated by my failure to at least be able to hover any higher and no manic flapping of my arms would help change it. It didn't last very long and that's all I can remember of it.

So now I want to give it another go and try to reach the heady heights of floating above people's knee level (it helps to have a goal, I suppose )

I just have one question so far: Can the ability to LD be passed down genetically? It's an odd question and I only ask as my dad seems to have a natural ability to lucid dream and yet the only bits of his genes I seem to have are his funny feet and a love for painting

Sorry I'm rambling on here, but it's practice for when I type up my dream journal. Anyway, it's well worth reading this post just in case it sends you to sleep and you get a LD from it

Look forward to reading more posts on here and finding out more about dream states.

Welcome to DV Lozi! I'm glad to hear that you're excited about Lucid Dreaming I've been practicing it for five years, but have had them on and off before then. I am not sure if LDs are genetic, but I am sure some people have brain connections that lend a predisposition to having an easier time having LDs, but everyone can do it.

What show were you watching that mentioned LDing? I always love when it gets picked up in mainstream media, more people should be excited about the concept Anyway, dont feel bad about typing alot, most of us do here. If you haven't already, check out the tutorials here: http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=69883

I'm a "Dream Guide" here, which is basically like a low-level moderator that is here for you There are a bunch of us floating around, and many many more helpful and friendly members, so If you have any questions, you can PM me, or just post on the board if you'd like I hope to see alot of you around, good luck Lucid Dreaming!

Thank you for the welcome Barbizzle. I really am quite curious to see what my imagination is capable of, whether I can control the logical part of my brain to 'let go' will be a challenge and a half, I'm guessing.

Thank you for the link to the tutorials. I will be gorging on info to try to make Lucid dreaming a regular occurance. There seems so much potential there. It's not so much trying to escape from reality than learning how creative your brain can be. I'm sure the possibilities are endless and this is incredibly exciting!

The program I saw was Horizon on BBC2: Why Do We Dream? They discussed things like nightmares and how they were a kind of role play for the mind to strengthen itself against opposition and deal with fear which was really interesting, especially considering the amount of nightmares I had as a child. It makes sense to me though, I always think of the adage: Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, and the ability to face fears straight on and initiate some kind of defence or response would I imagine, be useful even on a subconscious level, I think.

They also discussed Lucid Dreaming and then proceeded to talk about a man who held a class (in Hawaii-lucky sod) teaching people how to dream this way. I cannot remember for the life of me what he taught, as I was too busy looking up lucid dreaming online but it got me thinking about my past dreams and of course the potential to be able to control your own little universe. This really fascinates me. One of my goals would be to leave the earth and visit other planets-just to see exactly what my brain can conjure up. There's a freedom there as well as a safety net and a pool of desire that can be given just by pushing the brain's potential. I'm rambling again. I tend to do this a lot.

Anyway, thank you again for the welcome, dream guide Speaking of which, is it possible to actually create a dream guide or is that something you don't have control over? I only ask because in a few of my dreams there has been a companion beside me...one I sense but haven't seen and would it be possible to use this dream guide as a reality check?

      Hi and !!

On the DG subject, it can be either way. I know a few members that have created their Guides. By the looks of thing, it sound like you've already found yours. You just haven't actually seen that being. I'd say it's possible to use that as an RC.

Oh cool program, I think the guy you saw is Dr. Stephen Laburge. He has an awesome book you should check out called Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. Its a wonderful source of information ( I have a copy right on my bookshelf ) The celestial sky is soo so so beautiful in lucid dreams And like Snowy said, it looks like you already have a DG

Thank you so much for the welcome. That's exciting to think I have a DJ! I had a dream last night with Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) as my companion It would be funny if she turned out to be my DJ although I'm not sure if she was....hmm.

Barbizzle: Thank you for providing the name of that man! I would never have remembered it. I will have to look out for that book now, it sounds fascinating. Thanks guys
