Red face I'm new and would like to tell you about my dreams

      Hi Everyone!

I haven't really look into dreams till this past months. I remember I dream a lot when I was a child, especially in my high school years. I can still remember some of the dreams as if I just dream about it yesterday. I used to keep a journal but it was lost. I just started a new one recently.

Ever since I started to work 4 years ago, now and then I would wake up at around 6:30am. I would always wake up at that time. I would have to go back to sleep because my alarm set at 7:30am. Therefore, I felt like I hardly slept. Lately, it got worse. Ever since my break up with my ex last year's October. I would sleep and constantly wake up after dreaming at 5:20AM. NO matter if i am working or not. It went on few weeks, so my doc gave me sleeping pills. It just help me easily to fall asleep but I would still wake up at 5:20am. I tried it for 5 days with the pill but found it doesn't work. This pattern stopped in January though. Yesterday, it started over again. This time I would wake up at 4:19am. It is the SAME TIME.

Also, what makes it more interesting is. I have 5 dreams about my ex chasing me back ever since we broke up. It is not the same dream but 5 different ways he chased me back. Once I see him in my dream and I know is a dream, I would force myself to wake up. The clock will show 5:20am or 4:19am. I just had one yesterday. I can still remember those dreams too! It drives me crazy!! Is this normal?? I just wish I can sleep peacefully each night without so many interruptions.

      Hi, Akarli.
It is normal to wake up briefly in the middle of the night. Almost everyone wakes briefly as a part of their sleep and dream cycle, then falls back asleep without even remembering it. Normally, these brief awakenings become more noticeable as we grow older. As long as you can fall back to sleep realatively quickly, it shouldn't be a problem.

You can try to read around about sleep cycles to see how it works. We pass through various levels of wakefulness and consciousness throughout the night. Here is one pretty good guide:

As lucid dreamers, we train ourselves to notice these awakenings so we can take advantage of them to remember more dreams or hold our awareness as we fall back to sleep.

When I was younger I used to have issues with waking me up at certain times. Sometimes it was creepily reliable(same time multiple nights). However, now that I think about it, I used to have a clock that projected the time on the ceiling.. Weird..

Welcome to the forum!! I'm new too !!

      Hi Robot_Butler,
Thanx for replying. The thing is, I wake up at a certain time. I wonder if that is a sign. I did fall back to sleep but don't know how long it took. In Dec, I wasn't able to go back to sleep till an hour later. Really drove me crazy. I don't know is it a stress that I have since I just got a new job. My job is not starting till like a week later and I don't feel much stressful at all. I would wake up at 6:30 all time knowing my dad and sis will have to go to work. Just so weird.

I always wake up at the exact same time, too. We have the queer ability to wake ourselves up at any time if we put our minds to it. I have an alarm clock that I can't see in the dark, yet I can still wake up within one or two minutes of a specified time I give myself. I guess our internal clock is pretty accurate.

If you're interested, check out some WBTB (Wake Back To Bed) tutorials. Waking up in the middle of the night is a great way to score some lucid dreams. (Maybe if you look on the positive side of it, you won't stress about it ) I know the worst feeling is laying in bed trying to fall back asleep. Taking the pressure and worry off might help you relax. Get out of bed and do something relaxing with the time. You'll probably find it is much easier to fall back to sleep afterwards.

Of course, you know that all this talking about it is just going to keep it on your mind, and cement the habit, right?

      Hey Akarli Welcome to DV

These dreams where you know you are dreaming are lucid dreams, and you have said that you wake yourself up. It seems like the awakenings very early are your biggest concern, but to address these dreams where you are waking yourself up, it sounds like you have no trouble becoming lucid but that you wake up instead taking control of the dream. Try to read some more about dream control and see if, instead of waking up, you can try to resolve these dreams on your own so that you don't have these negative chase dreams anymore, but instead have fun and enjoyable lucid dreams. Let me know if you need any help or clarification

Thank you Shift. I didn't know we can control the dream. I usually just try to wake up or else I just wake up automatically. Thank you for the links!
