      nifty trick

i dunno if this has been said before. I tried a search on here and didn't find anything.. but in a Dream or Nightmare if it gets to intense, just start blinking.. it has always woke me up, ever since i was little.. maybe someone can use this

I've heard of a similar trick, like je33ica mentioned
However - to be blunt - I don't see why I would want to wake up
      Just kick nightmare's arse

yeh good point actually , i mean if u are going to blink to wake up u must be aware u are dreaming , its not like your gunna stop and blink in real life if someone is chasing u with an axe

yeh id rather just stay in the dream and beat the crap out of the nightmare

I tend to agree with placebo, just kick the nightamares ass or dreamspin (spin around really fast to change where you are in the dream)

If you are lucid you can also try shouting WAKE to wake up in a FA, normally leading to a non-lucid dream. But thats only if you really wanna get out of the dream.

      Good idea though!

Kicking a nightmares ass just require some degree of lucidity/willpower/courage, and it's just as easy to blink yourself awake, and get the hell outta the dream as soon as possible, because people's minds can think up some pretty damn gruesome things that you're just too terrified of to unleash your cans of whoop ass.

Well, nightmares generally come from fears, guilts and a couple of other nasty emotions...
Overcoming these fears, etc in your lucid dreams will result in your overcoming of those fears in the waking world
Partly because you can have a controlled environment to get used to it, and partly because lucid dreams are so close (in a few ways) to meditation and self hypnosis - in terms of state of mind at least.

Thus.. if a giant spider attacks you, confronting it will result in lessened fear of spiders...
IMHO, why waste the opportunity? But thats just my opinion... *mumble mumble*

Say the giant spider's like eating your eyes out rather graphically, and you're in the assumption it's pretty real, you're too busy having your eyes eaten and full of fear to actually wonder "is this a dream"? It's like, you have 5 seconds to live. I suppose human instict would be like "RUN", not "AM I DREAMING LOL". Or something. yeah bye now.

      Whatever
Its a figment of your imagination, and those aren't your real eyes. The sooner you realise it, the sooner the nightmare becomes comical and not frightening at all

Yeah, I understand, but what I'm meaning is the second you believe that thing is real, wouldn't human instinct kick in? You'd think it was real, so you'd have the fight or flight response...i guess. or not. heh.

EDIT: I cannot bloody spell "instinct".

Well, sure... theres a saying 'Its hard to think of draining the swamp, when you're being chased by the crocodiles'
I don't think crocodiles live in swamps, but you get the idea

Of course human instinct makes alarm bells in your head go off, and you just wanna run (or get angry.. whichever)
But you need to learn to force it into a dream sign. Force yourself to check before going with the instinct

I don't think I can have a normal dream anymore. The only dreams I've had for years are nightmares. Last night i was in this house and the interior resembled the Alamo. This madman with a beard slit my throat like 50 times. And he tried to drown me in this square pool of diry water. It wasn't that scary though.

My first LD as a child was a nightmare, being chased by gorillas
I became lucid and still didnt realise I had control - and curled up and waited for them to rip me apart
Other nightmare lucids had similar things. I managed to get away for a while, but the nightmare always caught up

After a while, you get it right
It just takes practice and understanding of how your mind works

Here's a method to fix it, watch nauty movies for 2 hours before sleeping every night for 5 years, then you won't be dreaming of sscary stuff anymore.....unless paper or someone is in it

ok so im jokin, it's the think of red theory, you don't want to think of red, but that's what is always on your mind...making sense?
