Have I had a lucid dream?

I thought I've had a few (Mainly in nightmares [I realize I'm dreaming and so I close my eyes and wake up]) But I never exert great control in these (Hold being able to float 2 feet in the air once.) And when I do have them they don't seem as amazing and vivid like all the other stories here.

Also, is it normal to have I dream where you have dream control (For the most part) but not being lucid? (I know that was really stupid of me not to go lucid there...)

      Heya, hunter!

First let me preface this by saying that the only requirment for a dream to be lucid is that you are aware you are dreaming. That's it. So yes, you've had lucid dreams.

Next, I should say that using your lucidity to wake up from a nightmare, while understandable, is an awful waste of a lucid. Just ignore whatever it is that seems to be frightening you.

Okay, concerning the last part of your dream, I wouldn't call it dream control if you aren't lucid. Being able to exert powers/do what you want in a normal dream doesn't make it dream control in my opinion. I believe that normal dreams have this go with the flow attitude, where your midn goes... well... where it's supposed to if that makes sense. Your mindset is almost pre-determined based on your mood/sub-conciouss/what you are thinking about and relating to/etc. The whole core of lucid induction is breaking this 'go-with-the flow mind-set. The nature of dream control is reversing this attitude and taking control of your dream. If you are not lucid, you are likely still susceptible to this 'just go with it' state of mind. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Nightmare thing was before I read this site, I always knew how powerful the brain was and that you must be able to change your dreams like many people here can, but I always had that barrier of believing I may have been wrong. I found this site last night which gave me no time to dream again.

      Thanks tho!

I frequently have dream control without lucidity. It is like I just assume I can do whatever I want when I am in a dream environment. Maybe I recognize something about the dream environment on a subconscious level. I definitely think you can have control without lucidity. Or maybe a very very low level of lucidity. So low it doesn't even count

I've also had a different kind of dream where I had some sort of superpower, but it was not dream control. Normally there was some sort of explanation for it, like I was playing a part in a movie.

Cool, so I'm really just wondering why my dreams haven't been as vivid as other's lucids. I'll be very disapointed if it just happens I'm the one out that will never experience a dream thats so vivid I can take a step back and admire my mind.

I think there are several tricks to increase vividness in a lucid dream. You could perhaps have a look at this tutorial, though I'm sure a more experienced members will have more good links.

Perhaps it's when you're having your lucid dreams, if you have them in the middle of the night, they are not going to be as clear as if they happen in the morning. It's simply because your brain isn't as awake so it's not working as hard at clearity and colours.
