      Time Control

      Hey everybody,

So I just started my dream journal last night, and amazingly already have an entry just by telling myself I would . My biggest question about lucid dreams is the control. Eventually you're able to control your dreams, but can you control the time in your dreams. I.E. could I say "Okay I want this dream to last thousands of years." Would that be possible to make my dream feel like it lasted an incredibly long time but in reality wake up in a matter of hours?

      Perhaps.

I myself have never had any time dilation experiences, but the general thoughts here seem to be that with extreme control/practice it is possible(it is a lucid, after all).

Check out these threads, they were very interesting!

The discussions here could answer the question better than I could!

To answer briefly, I have had VERY extended non-lucid dreams, but my lucids have never lasted mroe than, say, 15-20 minutes? That sounds about right.

There is scientific evidence that dream time is broadly the same as real time.

Dreams can seem longer than they are because:-

      • We tend to skip the boring bits (i.e. appear directly at the destination rather than walking).
      • Our logic centres are asleep so we have a very flawed awareness of whats occuring (including our sense of time).
      • Dreams are skewed and disjointed and often make no sense.
      • Dream memories fade quickly. The more they fade the more you will lose any feeling you may have had of its duration.

Can you deliberately and literally extend dream time so you actually have say 6 hrs of experience in 30 minutes. I would say no.
      Lucid Dreams:-
      MILD/DILD: 79
      WILD: 13
      DEILD:13
      (TOTAL: 108 )

Well, of course not. But you can have what is percieved to be years, or process more data in dream minute then you would have in a waking minute, so it's almost as if you may as well be experiencing an hour, or a week, or a month, in a 30 minute long dream.

I didn't mean it as in real life time lasting years, but I meant "feeling" it being that long in the dream.

Im actually kind of surprised no one has said anything about this yet but Stephen LaBerge claims to have been in a dream that lasted 100 years (100 years in the dream of course not in real life). Countless times have i fallen asleep at 6:30 had a dream that spanned over a day or two and awaken at 6:35. Those times are just examples by the way but i believe it is very possible to make a dream feel longer than you are actually asleep. How to do it purposely while lucid i have no clue, although i have read that verbal commands can work...the only problem is even if i tried i think i would still lose lucidity fairly quickly and wouldnt be able to realize any change at all. I think you would have to be very skilled at keeping stable in a ld in order to experience any percievable change in speed of time in your ld.
