      Hello

      Hi everyone

      My name is John

Where to start I had a dream about 6 months ago that left me quite disturbed, I was wondering if anyone had ever had a dream like I am about to describe, the simplest way to put it would be, In the dream I lived another life, from being a youngster to about my present age in my 40s I felt all of the emotion and all the physical pain of this other person all the highs and all the lows.

When I awoke I was in a very disturbed state I was crying and very emotional the person I was in the dream was very anxious about a young adult child they had who was in grave danger. It was so powerful emotionally

This is the even stranger part I am a happily married heterosexual man I have been married 20 odd years, in the dream I was a female and although the memories are fading for a few weeks I was very disturbed by memories that were not mine.

Has anyone ever had or heard of such a dream?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place

wow so the dream actually felt that long- or did it "skip" in places? How many actual memories from it do you recall? is it really a lifetime or does it only "feel" that way? Sounds very interesting.

Wow, that's intense. I've heard of dreams that feel like they've lasted a lifetime, but they weren't described like this. Was it like a lifetime-long nightmare? That would be horrible. =o

Edit: @yuri: haha, I just clicked on your sig. That's funny.

It did not skip anything from growing up, marriage childbirth, marital / physical abuse, but like I said the memories are fading now, I do remember how intense the full range of emotions were and it would have been easier if it had of been a nightmare or even a normal dream, however it had none of the normal dream things you know the nonsensical stuff. As far as I can recall I have never had a nightmare I am lucky that way, my wife has bad dreams almost every night. I can’t really describe it any better then I have done above, what I will say is that the dreams I have had all my life are more like movies and are great fun, this one however was something different, I have asked loads of people if they have ever had a dream like mine no one seems to recall one.

I don’t want to go into too much detail but the following few days after the dream I could relate to my wife some feelings / events that being male I couldn’t possibly know

Although the dream was disturbing I also have to admit it certainly gave me an alternative view of life and has probably made me more understanding of other people if that makes any sense.

I was really hoping that someone else had had this kind of dream

Maybe I’m just a loon lol

Did the dream happen all in one night? That's some extreme time dilation. Do you know what your name/address/phone number in the dream was? It would be really freaky if the person actually existed.

I don't think you're a loon. Your grammar is lovely. xP

Thank you for your kind words especially about not being a loon

I really wish I had written down the details of the dream in some kind of journal at the time, as now six months later I have trouble recalling most of the salient information, I remember the name of the street, as well as the house and the interior, but unfortunately no real hard information like phone numbers or actual addresses.

Your absolutely right about the time dilation but dreams are not governed by the same physical laws as real life I presume that’s the only explanation I can think of, As for names yes I do remember the name of the woman and her daughter as well as her husband and family but the surname escapes me, It’s quite frustrating this woman in my dream had a very hard life, was brutalised by her husband, was filled with an immense love almost like a real physical connection with her child that I know how it felt but finding the words to describe it, well the English language does not have the words to enable me to express it,

I know I should not be frustrated but if for some reason this person was real and somehow however impossible it is we connected she was in real need of help for her daughter and I have only been given half the information thus making it impossible to assist her,

I really would like to think it was just a dream, it was just so vivid.

LaBerge did an experiment that determined that dream time takes the same amount of time as in waking life. He had various people estimate ten seconds while awake, then ten seconds in their dream by moving their eyes back and forth at the beginning and end. I think the main theory behind dreams that seem to last for ages is that sort of skips but you don't really notice. So say it's the morning and then it suddenly it becomes night. People just assume that a whole day has passed, and thus it feels like they've been in the dream for longer than they acually had.

If you remember the city/state and what the exterior of the house looked like, you could potentially go there and see if it exists, although I'm not sure I would recommend it. Dreams can be extremely vivid, as I'm sure you know. I personally don't believe in the beyond dreaming stuff (although I do find it fascinating), and I don't want to encourage you to go on a wild goose chase. More than likely it was just a dream, albeit a strange one.
