      Unhappy So vivid

Hey guys, Im sorry if this is in the wrong place Im new as you can tell lol and I got a little confused.
I always used to sleep fine, Ive always been a dreamer but this year I started to have really graphic realistic dreams, often horror related, like one for instance I was sat next to a bed and my sister was on it, I was looking at her feet (could only see her shoes) I then turned to look at her face and it was ripped open and horrific...I screamed and woke myself up yelling out, often I scream out for help, I know im dreaming yet in my dream im begging myself to wake up, im trying so hard but there is almost like a barrier stopping me from breaking through to wake up.
When I do wake im so scared I can hardly breathe and often im crying, I really hate it, I was wondering if anyone thought this is normal? the doctor couldn't help in fact he laughed and said "Its just nightmares" but nightmares
I used to have never used to wake me in a panic in such a way they do now, Last night I was dreaming there was a worm in my hand the more I pulled the more it went in, then I pulled and it went on forever it was so long, as I did this I actually could feel the pain, I looked at my hand and there was a gaping hole..I woke with a jolt and looked at my hand and of course all was ok grrr horrid ....

Sounds to me some of your experiences may have been Sleep Paralysis.. People have stated when in sleep paralysis waking up from nightmares and not being able to move or having a hard time breathing. I myself just recently had a case of that a few days ago. I woke up in a false awakening having a sense of something evil in my bedroom. It was completely dark and I knew I was dreaming but couldn't turn on my light when I tried, it didn't work. I ended up standing up in my dream and yelling out "DJ WAKE UP!! WAKE UP DJ!!"

I slipped into another false awakening where it literally felt like someone was dragging my blanket and myself toward the foot of my bed.. I eventually woke up, but it was quite a strange experience..

I suggest just reading up on something that maybe able to help you, like Sleep paralysis and what not.. Dream views does have a section called Nightmares and Reoccurring dreams, you might be able to find some help in that area.. Otherwise just keeping asking and looking around!

I hope this has helped in some way!

Good luck to you and welcome to dream views!

Yeah, I've had some freaky dreams like that, too. (Once when I was 5 I dreamed my kindergarten teacher roasted my brother alive in a huge oven in front of the entire class. Talk about a twisted show and tell!)

... I think you're in the right place to deal with such dreams, though! I really believe that by seeking greater control of your dreams, you will eventually be able to remove yourself from the "victim" role in such nightmares and change the scenario into something much more enjoyable.

      Good luck!

Sounds like an effect of sleep paralysis to me. There are plenty of topics here around that subject.

Good luck and welcome to DV!

Thank you for all your replies I had one bad as I call "tremor" last week but last night there was another, this time I was arguing with my sisters and they brought my nan into it who has sadly died and I got so angry in my dream I have never had this where im angry its normally something really scary that wakes me and leaves me shaking, I screamed something like "NOW LET ME OUT OF THIS DREAM" and I was shaking my partner well so I thought I was im not to sure and he seems to vaguely remember, but the weirdest part of it was after I woke and said sorry to my other half and closed my eyes there was all these pictures one after the other images flashing really vivid, I wish I could remember what they were and they only lasted a few seconds, feel like crud today always leaves me feeling so bad the next day grrr

Instead of trying to wake yourself up, it would be more productive to stay in the dream and try to sort the problem out, despite how terrifying it may be. If you are able to take control of nightmares and turn them into something less morbid and scary, it may eliminate them altogether. All you have to do is stand up to your fears and they will most likely go away. Just tell yourself that it is only a dream and that what you are experiencing isn't really real and can't hurt you in any way. I have done this many times in lucids to get rid of things such as tornadoes and feral dogs, so in spite of how difficult it can be to stand up to such things, it really does help.

Emotionally intense dreams are something I get too. Aside from the sleep paralysis factor, your dreams seem to be emotionally powerful in a negative way. Have you ever thought about why? I can't really explain it, but whenever I get emotionally intense dreams, I analyse the dreams and look at my life and things and I kinda figured outwhat in my head made that happen. I mean it's your mind so technically you should be able to tie things together and figure it out.

Sounds like you have an incredibly rude, stupid doctor. If this is causing you so much distress and it's impacting the quality of your awake life, it IS something serious that needs to be looked into and helped.

Can you think of anything in your real life that's changed this year that's upsetting you or stressing you out? I believe that all bad dreams are a result of real life stress (or junk food just before bed).

These horrible imaginings could also be a great dreamsign, since these things obviously don't happen in real life, you could train yourself to do a dream check whenever things get horrific and scary, detach yourself from the situation for a moment and analyze if this is only a nightmare. Once you become lucid, face your nightmares and conquer them. There's an entire chapter of Stephen LaBerge's book, "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" that's devoted to conquering nightmares, and he says it also helps you feel a lot better and boosts your self-esteem when you wake up after having faced the nightmare and conquered it, replacing it with a good dream.
