      Yet another newbie

Hello, only recently have I started to regularly remember my dreams through practice. When laying in bed after focusing on my breathing and quieting my mind I will tell myself "I will remember, I will remember...", and this has worked for me so far. I have not kept a constant dream journal, although I do have one.

I've also noticed that in my dreams I am myself, but I have no control over my own actions. I've done some reading on this site already, but from what I read the tutorials concern mostly becoming lucid. These would help more if I could perform these reality checks, but as I said I feel that I can't control myself. Perhaps I am controlling myself, but because the situations I am in seem real I simply don't realize what is happening.

Anyway, I came to this forum because it seems friendly, and very well put together. After seeing Waking Life I have been inspired to discover what I can learn about myself as that is my goal: knowing myself. It's great to be here! :]

I felt the same waith with not being able to control myself but without a doubt I knew it was me. Reality checks are what it took for me. For almost 3 months of doing them I never once had a lucid dream. Then I sorta gave up, a week or two later I had several almost back to back and all but twice it was because I looked down at my hands and though "wtf?" and became lucid, the other two were from looking at my iPhone and noticing I couldn't do anything with it.

Im new to lucid dreaming and doing this from my ipod, so excuse any bad grammar.

But I also do not have much control and had a similar feeling when I first started trying to Lucid Dream, but I think the key is to start doing reality checks at all times during the day and to make it a habit. When you are doing it, make sure you put a lot of thought into it at all times, I too feel somewhat skeptical that it will work, but I had my girst DILD in multiple years because of an RC. Excuse me if I misread.

Edit: And as for flying, I have been having trouble too, where I can only do it by swimming through the air. I want to do something else, but in my recent one, I couldnt take off. I'm going to try imagining the feeling of flying fast as opposed to feeling the motions. That may work.

      Welcome

There's a lot of tutorials available. The idea would be practice in waking life carrying over into dreaming automatically. And that would be what sparks consciousness in your dream.

Longest lucid dream was something over one hour.

for who can know those distant stars? like a life we have not lived, within the twinkle. like a universe we've not known, so far away.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have made it to the sleep paralysis twice now. Yesterday morning I felt the rush, and buzzing, and I think I may have had a false awakening because everything just stopped so I gave up. This morning I felt a rush two times, and then after a buzzing throughout my limbs. The hardest part so far for me is keeping my mind awake while I enter a dream. I can feel the dream coming in concepts, but I either think too much, and loose it, or I lose consciousness.

To me the eye avatar represents how at all times the outside world is a creation of our minds as sense perception is really just electrical signals in the brain. I really only know my mind exists, everything else... well that's a different story .

I like your way of thinking.

Thanks . I've been able to remember up to 4 dreams a night lately so I've been pretty excited.
