It is possible to go into sleep paralysis without first falling asleep, but it is very difficult to do for most dreamers. |

So the other night I was trying to WILD. But I didn't go to sleep and then wake up and then do the SP stuff. Would this work? Just doing WILDing techniques when you first start to sleep. Also when I was doing this I tried to go into SP and I think I did it but I'm not sure so I'm going to describe it. My body started to feel odd all over. It wasn't a vibration and it wasn't a wave over me it just slowly seeped into my body in random areas until it was all over. There were no hypnogogics either or weird sounds. Just that feeling. I then was wondering if I was in SP so I tried to move. I was kind of scared to move because if I wasn't in SP it would reset the "timer". So I tried moving my hand in I kinda couldn't but I think that was just in my mind and I was hesitant then I really moved it. Was this SP or would I not be able to move at all? |

That feeling was the feeling of nothing. Strange concept. When you fall asleep, your body gets disconnected from your mind, including your sense of touch. Your mind doesn't get any input from its senses, so it doesn't know how to analyze that. Not feeling is not the same as feeling nothing, which is weird. |

Ah, yes, the slow, creeping "numbness." I've had it a few times before in my legs, but the feeling was just too strange to continue. Never made it very far, but when I did try to move my legs, it felt really odd. They were kind of heavy, and when they moved across the sheets, it was like they were feeling again for the first time (if that makes any sense at all). Don't have the patience to WILD, so I MILD instead. It's working wonders for my dream recall. |
