      Is it really SP?

      Hi All,

I have been using the term SP, loosely, but is that what it is? technically?

I mean, i get very, very, very still. And some times even more still than others.

But only once would i say i've gotten to the point where i literally couldn't move if i wanted to. i thought it was cool cuz i knew what it was but i'm not sure what i would have done if i didn't know.

the other times were different. if it isn't true SP what is the correct term, or is that what people call any state where you are drop dead still? even when voluntary?

      thanks,
      bg

I think that no matter what, you can still move if you really wanted to. Because I know you can get out of SP.
Although... I don't know if you meant move while still in SP.

well technically speaking, it is when your muscle being the skeletal muscles are unable to move either upon waking or when going to sleep. people who have "problems" with this "disorder" usually can't move at all,
i believe that when you induce it yourself, you can move if you wanted to, but overall, when in SP my body tends to get soooo heavy, yet so comfortable and it feels sort of like waves of vibrations running down my entire being. but in know that if i really want to, i can move, it takes me a second to get to move, but i can do it.
i am not sure about the names of the voluntary sp...
and i understand the whole, sp being deeper at times. i think it just depends on the amount of stress or other outside contibuters to that...

i hope i answered your questions...

Well there are levels to SP, levels, of lucidity, levels of clarity, just like levels of sleepiness, and levels of hunger. When I am in SP, my body sometimes twitches. Um, it takes me maybe two or three seconds to move if I want to while in the state. I am sure if there was an emergency, adrenaline would kick in, and release me from it.

Sleep Paralysis is just what it says, paralysis. It's when the body paralizes itself outside of the REM Cycle.

What do you mean there's levels to SP? You'll have to explain that to me, because it doesn't sound right to me...

it is exactly what slayer says, but also, you can, (i guess it depends on the person) move your body at will if you really want to (which would interrupt the whole process..) but in alot of cases some people cant which is why people who have sp disorder search so hard for a way to rid of it, so once again, it depends on the person.

so, maybe there are a few acceptable ways to use the word? one is the "technically correct" way and one is the "looser" way?
      thanks,

When I have SP I can not move, no matter how hard I try, other than opening my eyes and looking around. Sometimes I'm in an uncomfortable position and all I want to do is move, but I can't. I always need to fall back asleep then wake up later. That's SP to me but I guess it could be different for others.

that;s exactly what i mean, it is very different for everyone. i can go right into sp in a matter of minutes. but throughout the whole thing i can move if i really want to, some people cant move at all, thus they look for ways to get rid of that diorder...

Personally, I love my SP. I've gotten it at least once a month since I was 14, always in the morning while waking up. It used to scare the hell out of me, but I've really gotten used to it in the past year or so. It's what led me to attempt lucid dreaming.

thats really cool. some people tend to consider it a night mare but to each his own.

it's a good thing that you are using it for good purpose though
