Way to DILD (how to do mantras)

I read that doing mantra's might increase the chances of becoming lucid, but do you say a Mantra out loud or do you repeat it in you mind. If I do it in my mind I have the tendency to fall asleep quickly.

What I used to do was I would actually say it, but not loud, kind of a whisper. I would say it over and over and over as I am falling asleep, I wouldn't stop saying it. I made sure that the last thing I think about before being in the sleep state was something like "I will RC" or "I will realise I'm dreaming" etc.

But, I think saying it just in your head works too, but I found my way successful at the time. That was back when I really really put effort into it. I lost that effort pretty quick, so I got like 7 LDs or something within 2 weeks, until I lost my motivation.

Me too, I'll say it during the 10 minutes or so before I actually get in bed. That seems to work best for me.

Hmmm, I thought the actual point on them is to make sure it is the last thing you think of before you are sleeping.

But if what you do works for you, then that's good.

Well it really is the last thing I think about. I stop when I get in bed, and then just try to lose consciousness.

So you are saying when you go to bed you are able to keep your mind clear of everything, with absolutely NO THOUGHTS.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just unlikely.

This. You may wish to see the MILD tutorial, too. Personally, I prefer mantras that are in the active voice. Something like, "I am dreaming" is good. I think Naiya confirmed this in chat with me, but don't quote me on that. Whatever works for you best, though.

It would also be a good idea to do a bit of mantra-ing during the day, if possible. Just repeat it silently to yourself. I've found that my multitasking abilities are able to mantra and keep up with something else at the same time.

Also be sure to really boost your awareness, too. RCing and mantras will help with this, but you have to avoid falling in the habit of believing that they will fail, or simply performing them without questioning reality.

Ok thanks, I just kinda wondered if there was a real difference or if talking was more or less effective.
