      Wink Studying in a dream.

Is it possible when LD'ing to study and do good on a test? I was watching this discovery show on the brain and Lucid Dreams were in it and it said that studying before sleeping is better to memorize the answers and stuff so i thought of that question.

      Please someone answer this.
Goals:1) Get better at Dream Recall 2) Have a LD 3) Learn to control my dreams 4) Fly!

Well the thing is that unless you know the material beforehand, you will make up something to "study".

For instance, If for some reason you didn't know that 2+2=4, and tried to study that in the dream without knowing that, you may come up with 2+2=fish, or 2+2=dog brains. Or if you're extremely lucid, you're just as likely to have a brain fart in the dream as you would in Waking Life.

However, Lucid Dreams can be a useful study tool if you're reviewing something you already know. But again, this depends on your ability to remember what you learned. So if you have shoddy memory to begin with, you may be better off waiting until the next day to do so.

Oh! Also, Lucid Dreams can be used as a rehearsal tool. For instance if you want to practice your lines in a play, you can do so in the dream.

Everything is limited by your Imagination, which has no limits. However, for solid information that you need to know (math, science, blah blah blah) I'd avoid using LDs to study.

A question. Your freaking god. You can do anything in the world you want... and you study. But why? Lucid dreams are just so... precious. There are better ways to study anyways. Why would you study over doing something more... fun?

I was actually thinking about this, but gave up on the idea since my classes rely so much on math. I figured if I started writing down a problem, as I continued the previous work would probably change.

This is sorta related. I have to say right now, I'm no expert in lucid dreaming at all, and this is just what I've been thinking with my extremely limited experience in lucid dreaming.

I was thinking about a week ago about this sort of thing, and came to the conclusion that while an LD wouldn't be a very good tool for learning new things, it would be an absolutely amazing tool to solve problems where you have all of the information you need already, but you just need to think them through. I would think that with the added support of your unconscious minds presence, you would be able to think things through much much more effectively, as you would be able to visualize everything you're thinking of. Your thoughts would become much more organized, and you would become much more aware of what your entire brain is doing, and much less distracted by senses. Especially if visualization is required, instead of having to just visualize certain situations in your head and having to keep track of it all, it would be like what you are visualizing is really there, and you would be completely in your visualization, and that way everything would be a whole lot easier to keep track of. It seems like if you do it right, thoughts would come easier, creativity would improve, focus would improve, and everything would be more organized.

What does someone who has more experience think of this? Is my theory right?

In any case, I really enjoy thinking about philosophy, and one of the things that drive me the most to lucid dream is being able to think things through better, and being able to simulate certain things, and perhaps practicing various other skills, so that my dreams will help me in life even more than they do now.

To those of you that don't know, the current most acceptable reason behind REM dreams among scientists is that dreams are meant for the mind to improve its function in situations that it believes may come in the future. It has been shown that if a person dreams about something that they had learned the previous day during their REM sleep, then that person will improve at that activity a great deal more than a person that doesn't. I think if you are able to control your REM dreams, and you practice specific things, it will cause you to improve drastically.

Sure, I plan on flying around and having sex and whatnot in my LDs, but that's not at all what I most look forward to!

i think this is the point the show on dreaming was making.

also cultures like the senoi valued dreaming as a place to "rehearse" for real life. meet a tiger in your dreams as a kid? you'd learn to fight it rather than run away... etc.

Do you really think it isn't fun to be able to have the mind of god while you think?

Your lucid dreams are only limited by your brain correct? You'd have the exact same studying experience in dream, as out.

      Absolutely not!

A dream mindset is a very different mindset, regardless of lucidity. Your brain is a lot more active during REM sleep, and when there are no distracting senses, a lot more is possible. Can you normally be able to visualize entire landscapes in your head, as well as LIVE in the landscape that you have created? I would be very surprised if you can during waking life. Your mind is a lot more powerful when it doesn't have to interpret external senses.
