      Smile Hi I'm new!

Hi, I just joined a few minutes ago! I've been interested in the concept of lucid dreaming for a while and I've just begun to seriously consider learning how to do it myself!

I tried to have a lucid dream last night, it was my first attempt so needless to say I didn't get very far! I think I got a little too "over-obsessed" yesterday, doing constant reality checks and looking at my hands every other minute. By the time I got into bed, I was so excited about it I couldn't sleep for ages!

However, I woke up earlier than usual, at about 8:30, and I must have been half way through REM because I remembered four dreams! I've written them all down and I'm going to remember more tomorrow morning.

I have had a couple of lucid/semi-lucid dreams in the past, when I was about five or six.

Do you think I'm doing alright so far? Am I trying too hard?

I'm going to have a look around the forum now, great site by the way!

(Oh, and I read somewhere that lucid dreaming becomes more difficult during puberty and into adulthood, is this true?)

      Hi Welcome on board!

It sounds to me like you are heading in the right direction. Don't worry yet about trying too hard. Motivation is extremely important, it sounds to me like you are highly motivated so I expect for you to succeed.

You asked about lucid dreaming being harder during puberty and adulthood? I don't believe so. Everyone is different though. Personally, I find now that I'm middle aged, it has become a little more difficult for me.

      Good luck on your quest!

Reading that made me happy. A lot of people who are new to LDing say that they'll *try* to do something, or that hopefully <insert event here> will happen.

Like Seeker said, enthusiasm and motivation is a big part of learning to lucid dream. If you keep up the positive attitude and persevere, you'll be LDing in no time.

I've heard the same thing. Something about having more dreams (and sleep in general) when you are younger. We have a lot of teenage members with awesome dreams.

Thanks for all your inspiring comments everyone! I've just had another LD-less night, but I was reasoning in the dream. I found myself thinking, "Hang on a minute, Stegosaurus are herbivores, so why are they chasing me?" If I'd taken that a step further and realised that they are also extinct, and therefore the situation was impossible, I could have used that as a reality check to become lucid.

Also, towards the end of the dream I started to feel a bit suspicious, like something wasn't quite right. Could that have been my subconcious trying to tell me I was dreaming? On the other hand, it could have just been because this creepy woman was grinning at me and wouldn't tell me where my parents were.

Anyway, I'm certainly looking forward to tonight!

Questioning things in your dream is a good sign. I'd recommend doing some physical reality checks (like plugging your nose, reading text, and looking at your hands) if you don't already. Whenever something doesn't seem to make sense, go ahead and RC.

      Good luck!
