Thread: Why did this happen?

This is a dream i had the other night
well I was in a snowboard competition with a couple of people I did my run and watched the others go, when it was done I went over to this lady sitting at a table(she was the judge) and asked about the results, she went over them and said you won you came in first. But I thought one of the other guys did better so he should have won and she looked at me kinda funny and said no you should win, the way I see it you won (it wasn't till later after i woke up and thought about it,her expression and stuff it was like she was saying you idiot this is your dream, you won what are you doing?) but anyways while talking to her I guess I realized that I was dreaming so I asked the question to try and take control of my dream "am I dreaming?" "Yes I am dreaming" then all of a sudden my vision went blurry and it was like a quake. It was really weird how come it did that?

Perhaps you got excited and lost lucidity. The brain, for some reason, doesn't like it when you get lucid, and often creates distractions to... well, distract you. With practice, you get better.

That happens a lot the first time. People usually get excited and the excitement itself wakes them up. It didn't sound much like that was the case for you though. Maybe you're just not used to having your mind "wake up" in a dream without actually waking up. Congrats on questioning reality in a dream, that's the first step! Also, welcome!

Quick question, I just thought of this; is it possible to condition yourself while awake to accept lucidity right away, or somehow get used to it beforehand, like imagining you are in a lucid dream?

Well, you'd be lucid right away if you did a WILD, that way you go straight from the waking state to dreaming without any lapse in consciousness. I suppose you could "condition" yourself while awake by always being really aware. Reality checks are a part of this. Just always be on the lookout for things that could indicate a dream.
