      Precision of Language?

      I'm just wondering...

If you're auto-suggesting (if I have the right topic) to, lets say wake up after a dream. You repeat the phrase "I will wake up after a REM cycle" until you fall asleep.

Now in the case of me, although it may have been coincidental, I woke up after a dream... Not to go to the bathroom or anything, I just woke up. So I'm feeling confident that auto-suggesting to wake up works. Well here's the thing.

The two times I've done that, they have both been successful. There was one problem, I couldn't get to sleep at all. Take last night for example. I woke up at 3:30AM, and couldn't go back to sleep at all. So I just came on dream views. My question is: Is precision of language needed for auto-suggestion? Like would I have to say "I will become aware" instead of "I will wake up" or is it just my unluckiness that I couldn't fall back asleep?

Sorry for text wall. (Or whatever, a text pile... or a text brick XD...)

Maybe MILD works too strongly for you lol
Anyway, never heard before that you have to be THAT precise, so guess you just got unlucky? But yeah, if suggestion works for you, go for the become aware!

Maybe I thought about it to hard and my brain registered it as "Get up for school" or something XD. Who knows.

I once tried auto-suggestion. Somehow "I am lucid" turned into "I am suicidal". Not the kind of auto-suggest I need.

Must've been one hell of a dream you got there XD. But would "I am lucid" actually work -.-'? I thought that you could only use it to wake you up without the use of an alarm clock.

Wow, I'm so ill-informed (is that a word?).

I use hypnosis as my primary method to induce lucids and remember dreams. I have almost a 100% success rate with 1 or more lucids every night. To me it blows every technique away but you have to know what you're doing. You have to make sure you're in hypnosis first before using the suggestions or they will be in vain. Also the suggestions have to be worded correctly and given in different varieties to be most effective. I can post some if you need suggestions.

I notice my mantras get a little garbled too as I'm falling asleep... I'm hoping it's more of the intent that counts, rather than the actual words!!

Smuds, it might have just been unlucky. There are times where I'll wake up at the end of a REM cycle, and I have troubles getting back to sleep. I can't attempt any induction methods at all on those nights. And there are other times where I wake up, write notes (from the last dream) and it's all I can do before I'm passing out again.

So I guess it all depends on how your body wants to screw with you in the end doesn't it .
