      Reality Check Fail

So, I've trolled these forums for the last month and have read up on quite a few tutorials etc etc. As I'm sure I'll have many questions in the future, my first is about a dream I had last night.

I had a false awakening an at one point and decided to do a reality check. I used one that I heard before (while not the most common, it seems to make sense), I poked my finger at my palm. My finger did not go through, my palm reacted normally, i then pinched the skin to be sure, it all panned out, so I reasoned I wasn't dreaming...

I didn't realize until this morning i was

Was the fail, in the type of RC, or just my noobness or does this just happen, sometimes an RC actually "works" in the dream

When i have FA and do a RC i always look at my hands. They always look weird, and most of the time i get the LD. I never tried the palm/finger method, so i don;t know if that will work for me.

i think it was the type of rc. in my opinion that rc isnt reliable. i would suggest the nose pinch rc. just hold your nose and see if you can still breath through it . if you can then u are dreaming. i thiink this rc works so well becuase ( correct me if im wrong) you cant hold ur breath while ur asleep or rather it would take a lot of concious effort to. and it would probably disrupt ur breathing pattern and wake you up.

and you have to believe that the RC will show that it is a dream. otherwise, it can and will fail

The nose pinch RC has always worked for me. I would recommend practicing that (except you get some pretty strange stares if you do it in public).

I usually double-check the time on a digital clock to make sure it says the same thing. It's effective and discreet.

I think one of the most common explanations for a failed reality check is that the person tends to mindlessly perform them during waking life. Don't worry about it though, it happens.
