      First WILD attempt

Hello all this is my first thread. I attempted a WILD for the first time last night. I'm not sure if what i did was a WILD or not. (i couldn't fall asleep) What happened was i counted to keep my mind awake, i was asleep on my stomach and after about 15 minutes or so my arms and legs got really heavy, i saw some green patterns behind my eyes almost like a tunnel and i started to be really aware of every movement in my house (rain outside, dog breathing, house settling). i think this was my mistake because i had psyched myself up for hypnagogic hallucinations and i sort of freaked myself out of being able to sleep. after half an hour i gave up my counting and just went to sleep. im just curious as to whether this is a decent attempt at a WILD. Should i have done anything differently? is it always so difficult to actually fall asleep? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

First off, hi and welcome to the DV forums! I have only been here a few weeks and have already got some great response on here. Anyhow, Wake-Induced Lucids are one of the most challenging techniques , especially for beginners... I give you credit for trying! It sounds like you were having trouble falling asleep? In most cases, you were probably trying overly hard to have a WILD and exciting your brain at the same time. In order for a WILD to happen, you have to be VERY relaxed and at ease. I used to drift into dreams very easily as a child, but as stresses and other things build up, it's harder to just let yourself go. The last time I tried a WILD, I had some tea to relax and it helped a bit. Still, WILDs are quite hard, my advice would be to read more about them on the fourms and try again. Just don't amp yourself up beforehand!

Make sure you time your WILD attempt correctly. You want to do it in the middle of the night, after a few hours of sleep. Trying to do it when you first lay down at night is unnecessarily difficult.

I studied WILD before and honestly I want to attempt but I would probably get scared out of my mind after the paralysis and seeing things. I'm new at this but I've already starting to get MILD. But anyways what is it normally like trying WILD and did you ever get scared doing it?

There is no reason to be afraid of WILD, but I know what you mean. You can sometimes get some frightening hallucinations. There is no harm in waiting until you are more comfortable with your dreams before you try to WILD. MILD is a great way to score tons of lucid dreams.

Yea I'm not scared like it will hurt me or anything like that. Scared more in the creeped out sense. I'm not one to scare easy but WILD seems like it could do it. I've never done it so I don't know.

Thanks all for the comments. Okay a few answers to things: yes i was having trouble sleeping in the first place, i think a large part of it may have been that i tried right off the bat instead of after a few dream cycles. i think i might try again tonight and just relax more, and i will definitely read up more on the forums. Thanks again!

Good to here I'm not the only one I set my cell on vibrate and to wake me after 4 hours of sleep. I got up, drank some water and gave it a go. I counted and ran the alphabet a few times and found my self drifting. I felt my body sinking and started feeling my body vibrate slightly. I fought hard to concentrate back to the counting and drifted in and out of this state a few times. It seemed that every time I started seeing colors I notice my heart was racing and I was breath to fast. Then I would wake up
