      FILD Troubleshooting

Ok so the last 2 nights, i have set an alarm for about 3 hours after i fall asleep. First, I have trouble getting to sleep both nights. I think this is related to a lot of pressure in general, or expectation. When i wake up with the alarm, i get up, go to the bathroom, and get back in bed. Very lightly tapping the bed like a piano, i try to drift off to sleep. I have found on several occasions that i really have trouble shifting phases. It seems that i have "awake" and "asleep" quite simply. I can move my fingers all night long, or i can go to sleep. I have trouble deciding which to choose. Do i have to lie flat on my back? I don't ever sleep like that, but if it helps, i'll go for it. Does it matter that i go to bed very late, and i wake up when its light out? I'm having trouble distinguishing what the exact goal is with the method. I reaaaally would love to be able to induce lucid dreaming. I've had several over a couple years, and i want to have them more often. Is there something im doing wrong?

I think the idea behind FILD is that you barely move your fingers at all. You want to move them so lightly, you are almost just imagining it. Many people do the same thing with their whole body, imagining the feeling of rocking back and forth or falling, without actually moving. It helps to separate your awareness of your body from your actual body. You can try it now. Imagine lifting your arm, without actually moving it. It is like you send the message to move, without really activating any muscles.

This is really just an anchor to keep you from falling asleep all the way. Something to focus on as your thoughts drift into weird dreamlets on the edge of sleep.

Ok so im gonna try this again tonight with your suggestions. It seems like far too often i don't wake up to my alarm in the middle of the night. This has really slowed down efforts. I have made an observation recently. Today, i took a spontaneous nap. I found my self realizing that "this is a lucid dream," but i was too sparked with excitement to stay in control. I had no problem with control before i got involved with this site and all the techniques. I may trying too hard. Is that possible? But anyway. I think for me to achieve a good solid lucid dream, i need to make an immediate change from awake to asleep. Today with the nap, its not like a lied there forever, like i tend to do before bed, especially with plans for an attempt at lucid dreaming. So... any advice?

Well remeber it's just a dream. Dont get stressed out about it. They are fun but not necisary. And if trying to hard is your problem anyways then just try to relax lol.
