No lucids yet, but having fun trying

Just started poking around this site about a week ago now, and have read a number of posts and techniques. I have yet to have any lucid dreams, but am not overly discouraged – I’m having fun recalling the ones I’m having. I guess I’ve never really given my dreams a ‘lot’ of thought. There have been a few that have been shall we say – ‘near reality experiences’.

I’m going to shoot out a couple questions and observations – please nobody take offense.

Hmmm. How to put this??? Does age matter.
As I read post on this site, it appears that I’m reading a younger crowd - and not necessarily just younger than myself. But I also read on posts that the younger you are the more prolific the lucid are (number and vividness). That being said, I guess I’m relatively screwed. Though if I can remember the dreams as I have been, I feel it’s only a matter of time.

I’ve also read about ‘attention to detail’ and ‘discerning reality’. Now there’s where I would hope that I have an edge, but I’m beginning to think that in the dream world, that becomes the great equalizer. I used to think I have a good attention to detail and maybe I’ve been fooling myself.

To this end, I’m leaning more toward DILD and WILD as the main techniques to use. Reality checks… Uggggh, that’s like teaching an old dog a new trick. I know the importance of programming one’s subconscious to do one’s bidding and believe in it wholeheartedly. It’s just the doing it.

Dream journaling is something else that’s a bit cumbersome (I know I’m starting to sound like a teenager complaining about homework – LOL). There’s never enough time in the day to do it, and I’m too damn tired during the night to record them (or too lazy – that’s probably it). Although, last night I decided to get up a record the dream immediately after or at least put together crib notes on the dream so I could flesh it out in the day. Wouldn’t you know it would have to be on a night where I recall a hellaciously long dream – but mission accomplished. Saddened that I could not get a WILD to work (fell asleep – paid too much attention to HI).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m having fun just recalling the dreams. But still hoping for that first one.

Just got through downloading a mp3 recording that Ninja had made eons ago. We’ll see how that plays out.

Thoughts and comments are welcome. Or just tell the ol’ man to shut up and go to bed.

Well, if younger you mean teens, then yes that is true. I'd say about 60% or more of the community are 18 and under...I am 16, so I am apart of that. But, I don't think you should stereotype the "younger" crowd as typing worse, I'd say it depends on the person. I know you didn't mean anything by that. Yeah, for some reason, it seems to be that the 'younger' crowd likes LDing, and dreaming, more then people that are older. I also believe that in some cases it is easier for younger people to get LD's, but there are certainly older people that are great at LDing, don't get me wrong.

Yeah, sometimes typing up your dreams IS a bit cumbersome, and can take a while. On days it can take me an hour, but personally, I find it fun to recall every detail from my dream, type it up, and re-live it. If I were to re-read a dream from months ago, I can remember it like I had it yesturday. It helps that I add a scene description in my journal- to help others see what I was seeing, and giving myself a reminder. I never am disapointed after I typed up the dream. Even if you can't type up your dreams every day, at the very least try to remember your dreams, re-play it in your head. This can help you get lucid, eventually, with other techniques. You could also briefly type up your dreams, it's not as great as typing up the whole thing, but it is better then nothing.

I agree on the WILD vs DILD thing. I have had VERY few WILDs- which I never "meant" to have. I get my DILD's naturally.

      Happy dreaming .

No, no. I didn't mean to imply that the younger crowd types an worse than myself. It's just what I'm reading. I don't judge others in that sense.

I think that maybe the 'older' crowd thinks it to be a waste of time, or nonsense, doesn't have time for it, what use does it serve (I could come up with many other negatives). I don't see it that way. And maybe I'm in the minority of 'oldersters' looking into this. I remember trying to have Out of Body experiences in college and shortly thereafter. Never succeeded formally; although, did have two OOBs in one evening, completely by chance (not even thinking of such), and never attempted to do such ever again.

Part of me thinks that is why lucid dreaming is a bit tougher because of the second OOB. Definitely scared the hell of of me. And I know there are those that will say there is nothing to fear from them - well this was one of those "you had to be there experiences" before anyone starts in with that argument.

Anyway, I've put that behind me (so to speak), and should a similar manifistation occur, I'll deal with it and move on.

I agree it is exhilarating to relive a dream sequence. There are those characters that I'd just assume didn't show up so often. Not that I have a dislike for a particular person, it's just hurtful to relive the past sometimes. I'm over a lifetime up on you, so I've got some experiences I'd just assume not be dredged up unless I 'want' them to be. But I suppose my subconscious is a part of me, so Freud (or is that Fraud) would say there's some part of me that wants to think about it.

As with anything, I'll just keep at it. It's fun recalling the dreams anyway for now. And by the way, glad to see I'm not the only cheese-stater here. And thanks for the input.

      Scott

Yay, I fellow Wisconsinite . I love me some cheese! Super aged cheddar is the best-I love me some 10 year old cheddar!

I bet that when my generation gets old, dreaming will be the new thing . And, the oldies won't be as skeptical about it! Me thinking positivly .
