      I think I had a false awakening

      I was dreaming about something, then it hit me - I said "Wait, I'm DREAMING!!" Then my eyes "opened," and while they opened I could see my old dream on my eyelids. I quickly shut my eyes because I thought I was awake, and I think I really woke up hours later.

      A false awakening is when you "wake up" but you are still in your dream. If that's what you felt, you probably had an FA, even if it was just a short one.

      People who realize they're dreaming in an FA can use that to become fairly easily lucid, so it's a good idea to do a reality check whenever you wake up just in case. I can only recall one or two FAs (including one where I recorded a dream, so it wasn't there when I really woke up), but other people have them from time to time. Everyone's different. Just try to be prepared the next time it happens.
