      Sleep Paralysis

      Hi,

Just a quick question, if you reach sleep paralysis without falling unconcious are you "asleep" or is there more to go through before sleep begins?

No, you are just in Sleep Paralysis.

If you were asleep while in Sleep Paralysis, it is then called REM Atonia.

Sleep Paralysis is basically just REM Atonia except you are awake (You get REM Atonia every night. That's what stops your body from acting out your dreams)

So by definition, you are not "asleep" while in Sleep Paralysis.

But if you stay in Sleep Paralysis and remain conscious, and slip into a dream (You need to go straight into a REM period for this to work), you will be in a lucid dream. Where you can take control of the dream and do whatever you want.

Note: To enter straight into a REM period, you need to have slept only a few hours before. So most of the time, you can't do it at night when you go to bed. You can either wake up in the middle of the night and then do it, or you can take an afternoon nap and do it.

Mind helping me with a problem? I haven't had sleep in the past 2 days because of that damn SP. Every time I close my eyes I get the sinking under the bed feeling, and I have to get out of it. I want to lucid dream, trust me, but I'm just too much of a scaredy cat to go through with it.

Is there a way to just go to sleep normally?

Hey, how do I "slip into a dream"? After WBTB, I lay there for about 10-30 minutes and can feel I've entered SP and can feel the vibrations and sinking, dizzying feelings, but I've never seen HH or anything in my closed eyes. What should my mind be doing or thinking about during this time? Is it that I'm not relaxed enough or that I'm not thinking right? thx

Wow, that sounds like a serious problem. Don't be afraid to fall asleep, it's all in your mind, let yourself sink and become lucid. There is no need to be afraid, you cannot die doing this.

Yea, it always baffels me to hear about people being afraid of SP like that. (Well, except for certain people who end up with painful experiences)

But yea, the one time I ever had SP, I really enjoyed it. I want more.

So, I guess my advice to you is to overcome the fear, by trying to actually enjoy it. That is often the best way to overcome a fear.

Well, you just kinda slip into it. I don't really know how to describe it better than that. Try visualising a dream scene, and after a while, it should start to just turn into a dream.
Also, try not to focus your mind too much on the whole relaxing thing. Once you enter SP, just totally forget about your body, it is nothing to do with anything any more once you are paralysed. Just focus on the dream which you are forming in your mind.

I myself have not entered SP yet, but I have gotten up to seeing swirling colors behind my eyelids, but nothing more. Though I wish to attain SP soon.
