Was this OBE or lucid dreaming?

Just to let everyone know, this is my first post ever!

Ok, a couple of years ago I was in the Army, stationed in Korea. I used to have a group of friends that was really into enlightenment, to be vague. We started going to the library and getting books on the subject, for we had a lot of time on our hands.

I was staioned in Pusan and the friends that shared the interest of the books with me, were stationed about 2 hours away in Taegu. Every other weekend I would take the train ride up to Taegu and hang out (we had all gone through basic training together).

Anyhow, we all started passing around a few books called 'Conversations With God', part 1, 2, and 3. To be truthful, at first they were just entertaining books. After awhile though, I started reading them 3 to 4 hours a night over about a 1 month period. They did the same, but I really didn't realize that they were into em' as much as I.

You might be asking what these books have to do with lucid dreams or OBE, well here is what happened. One night after reading part 1 obsessively for about 7 hours, I fell asleep in the middle of reading. What seemed to me to be instantaneous, I floated up above my bed, over my wardrobe closet onto my roomates side of the room. I seemed to be very much in control of everything. It was one of the happiest moments of my life, I can't explain it except to say it was a warm feeling. Yet, as soon as I started thinking about it logically, I was zipped back onto my bed where I woke up. The crazy thing about was, it was daylight when I woke up. I had missed PT(which is just exsercise in the morning) and I was 3 hours late for work.

This happened one other time in very much the same way as the first, except that it was clearly a lucid dream, because even though I felt in control their were things that were impossible in real life, that happened in my dream.

Well, to just finish the story, the next weekend I went to Taegu to trade my CWG1 book with CWG2. Having not mentioned the episode I had experienced in Pusan the week prior, both of my friends said they had an OBE after reading their book. I was astonished and told them what happened to me.

My question is, was that first episode an OBE or a lucid dream? Thank You.

I sort of did the same thing once were I read a book, and fell asleep right after, I was awake, just looking around, then I was in a dream I tried to get out and then woke up, then went in again, the second atemt a got an electric shock,

to me that would be an obe, because my brother had an obe and when he started thinking about his body he got sucked into it, if you ask most people around here they will say evrythings a dream, because they don't beleive in stuff like that.

It doesn't sound like an LD. The necessary (and really only) requirement for an LD is for you to know that you're dreaming. If you have any other questions about LDs, feel free to ask myself or any other member of this site.

Thanks for joining DV and I hope you find what you're looking for here

Hey welcome to DV first of all.

Secondly, I think that you were just experiencing lucid dreams and not OBEs. OBEs only occur in the really deep state of sleep (where few can maintain consciousness) and that is why alot of people experience them during near death experiences. I thought I was OBEing several times...I've sat up out of my body, I've floated out of my body...etc. but this all happened during pretty shallow sleep and were fake OBEs. I suspect this is what you were experiencing as well.

      hm. wow.

That kind of thing really makes me wonder whether OBEs are just mistaken LDs and your friends were lieing or it was coincidental.

Or, more radically, that you all had something on the level of a spiritual experience.

I really am jealous of people who have OBEs, i have many LDs but havnt experienced an OBE...

      That gives me an idea...

ah. anyway, welcoem to dreamviews. I might pursue that thought later but not tonight.
Having little experience (read:none) with OBEs i couldnt really say, but my gut feeling would be a mistaken LD, mabe there was something in the air that night...
